all permits should have a validity of 3 years max & later it should be auctioned so that new unemployed and more energetic people take control of this. Ultimately the service should also improve due to competition.

Thereshouls also be a rating system in the 3 year term and those taximen who do not abide by the rules like refusing small distance passengers, old people, pregnant ladies or accident cases should be banned for life or license should be immediately terminated.

Mr.Rupesh,

How would you like if your employer sacks you after 3 years and then auctions the position for somebody who will work for less and most probably better equiped to do your job. (Paying more for permit is equal to working for less. Explaining as you have a pea sized brain).

Why bring these newer much costlier 'cool' cabs when the commoners are reluctant to shell out the charges charged by the normal taxis even?

Mumbai's Taxis
by Ramesh Shah on Dec 26, 2007 04:06 PM  Permalink

Most taxis in Mumbai are in extremely bad condition. Some of them are so bad that one fears getting into them. In addition, they are very dirty inside and the seats are very uncomfortable. It appears that there is nothing called "fitness certificate" requirement for these cabs or, if there is, it is being issued for a consideration. High time the authorities got rid of these ricketty machines and replaced them by regular operators who would maintain some minimum standard.
