It's nice to see a lot of article on both ends. I personally dont think the US regime is going to end. If you take the past histories, they managed to overcome all the obstacles they faced either in a legal or illegal way.

Many of the comments here are really stupid. Whether you want to accept it or not USA runs the world. The mighty dollar buys the cheap Chinese goods and cheap Indian programmers/call center operators.
A decline in dollar economy can only mean one thing doom for Chinese manufacturing and Indian Services industry. Dont forget that today's "Shining India" lives in just 12-20 cities while the farmers are committing suicides from Punjab to Andhra and Gujrat to Orissa as rural economy is down the drain (which means 60% of Indian economy is in shambles). The 12-20 cities that are part of "Shining India " are run by money coming from US and FII's. So if US consumer catches cold, Indian/Chinese urban class will die of pneumonia.

I do not agree with such analysis. There were countries and economies before US and there will be economies after US as superpower. And this kind of growth through external currency is showing signs of what you just said. Only few people benefit. So the focus should shift from export oriented to local growth as well.
And more over this problem was not created by any of these countries. It was created by US itself by indulging in printing as much $ as possible because it can. Otherwise there was no reason for these countries to pile up on their forex. And there is no problem in US. They would still insist on printing more dollars to solve its credit crisis and sub-prime crisis.
Seems the glory days of US is coming to an end courtesy GWB and Ben Barnanke like the previous cycle of UK but that time, at least globalization wasn't there and the economies were not by and large export oriented. I feel really puzzled. Do this combo care about it? Alan Greenspan was good but he's now with Bank of England. So complex and massive the scale of problem is, I don't know if there's any better person than AG to handle. DX is deep down, I feel really worried about the ensuing massive turmoil. It's just a matter of time now. The only good news is that if China is virtually the banker of US, it may never commit suicide itself. If US economy trips, it could be very ugly for this planet, don't really wanna dream.

I agree, the Empire is on its last leg. The 7000 bases in 130 countries, a trillion dollars in defense spending and unmitigated consumption by general American has all been made possible by 'loans' from Oil money and Asian money. This cycle will last another 10-15 years and will play itself out by 2025. By then the so called balance of economic of power would have reached equilibrium.
It's still in a Confused state along with terror since 1947. Leaders from there till our current puppet PM, still couldn't solve the problems of our Nation. Then why talk about USA ?

bull shit 99% of India's internal trade is not accounted.it is still black money ruling the roost.look at teh property market and gold market ,from wher are these people getting the money...bribes,robbery and other illegal means ofcourse.
Now US will begin visible manipulations to maintain GDP, balance of payments, trade accounts etc. First one was fired yesterday when it was heard that GDP of China and (also India) were downsized by world bank. In reality, world bank is threatened by these two countries growing power and lack of interest in doing lending business with them. So now, with lower GDP figures, they can lend more money. Second manipulation is already underway by both US and EU by pumping dollars and Euros into financial markets to keep their citizen's ever increasing debt (or shall I say credit !!) alive. Well well well, I must say third world war will be an economic one fought with dollars, euros, yuans, dinars and rupees !!! then the real story will begin out of desparation.

lots of talk of world economy verus india and asian countries. well india is a growing economy at an alarming pace, with youth power of 40% population in the age group of 20 to 30 years. This phenomenon will bring in huge flows of capital and increase spending capacity. Money will flow freely in the economy into all sectors like the stock market also inevitably. Fortune will smile on india and we will grow into a world reckoning power house of values and intellectual assest. The west will look to india for peace and solace. The war and peace of tolstoy will spell doom to the warmongers. Money is just one aspect of the economy but there is a whole lot of other humane values required to survive in this perishing globe "the earth". I wish u all a happy new year.
