Finally so much of hype is over with Bangalore and Pune like cities. Hyderabad, Mumbai are good cities, but Bangalore and Pune...come on ! poor poor poor infrastructure, no planning at all. Modest cities like A'bad and Kolkata are now getting their deserved attention. Good roads, 24-7 power, no water shortages, cleaner environment, good lifestyles with lots of entertainment...not just work work and work through night in call centers !!!

No man, can't agree with you.Hyd is not a bad place to stay.as you guies have described. Rather I feel , It better than the metros also.people are very good here.I am a bengali, But residing here for job.I can assure, it,s better than many cities(mum, kol,I have seen)and don't say, it's beggar's land, !!every body is rich here having 2-3flats,cars etc.No water problem. And highly rich culture.only thing is Govt employees are 10folds corrupted than Bengal, that I can assure. But they work!! :)

Hyderabad = Beggar capital ? Do you even know what you're talking about ? It's unfortunate in rediff that idiots like you have the opportunity to write whatever they want. Have you been to the city or did you just pull that out of your ass ? There are beggars all over India but I've seen more beggars in other cities than in Hyd. In fact the numbers are very less. Before you spew your rubbish here, atleast know what you're talking about. The metros have hundreds of beggars in every street corner, much more than Hyd.
Seems the author is not aware of the facts. The Bangladeshi communists successfully destroyed the work culture there in the last 27 years, demolished its economy by bringing Bangladeshis/ISI agents/HUJI Militants/Pakistanis etc for votes, performed state sponsored terrorism to remain in power. Kolkata has a bleak future as far as industrialization or commercialization is concerned except the only Tata-CPI(M) car venture at Singur, WB. WB Comrades as far as I have read, don't believe in modern management, their force comes from guns and goons only.

Most educated bengalis have left the city of Kolkatta and they live in other states.
Even the intellectual types have left Kolkatta and settle in Mumbai.
A state that is ruled by China backed Goons cant make much progress in 21st century. WBengal needs a government that works for its people and not a govt that works for some strange and sick ideology outside the country.

it is necessary to develop other cities apart from mumbai, bangalore ,...... for decentralisation, affordable property rates, prevent saturation of big cities and overall development. Infrastrucutre(roads, efficient public transport) is the key to all this. China is doing the same currently

Yasawant and guys who supported him!! Pls read the article carefully provided you have more vocabulary than preconceived notions and poor knowledge.. This is about cities that are in the direction of development not the developed. Yes infrastructure in kolkata is better than mumbai, bangalore, hyd and most cities. Militancy is everywhere from north to south, east to west. About the companies...there are 500 IT companies, numberous mfg plnts opening up, shipbuilding, ports, and wat not. CPIM rule is a fact but not an excuse to argue when you lack basic general knowledge. Are you a bihari?

Great for what? Avoiding hard work, drinking, smoking, endlessly arguing on why Bin Laden is great and why Bush is evil?
The intellectual CPM types have destroyed Kolkatta and there is no hope to your city unless CPM is ousted from power.

Sorry for the wrong reading of the message. I am never against Kolkata, I wish the city and the state grow well and far well, the average people of Kolkata is more humane. I feel bad about the sorry state due to the misrule. The cheapest city does not give always a good impression. Don't you have the bandh culture where the ruling party also calls for a shutdown? Where else do you see a Nandigram? But is the industry not happening in MS or Gujarat? Why the difference? Where do you see jealousy? It's a simple fact. People who say like this must visit Ahmedabad/Bhubneshwar/Pune (forget the level of Mumbai or Delhi) before that.

Do you mean by infrastructure, your Kolkata comes ahead of Mumbai? FYI, Mumbai is a grade-1 city in real terms. Mumbai is the financial capital of India. Yes, everybody notices - 'going to be hotspot' but where water is a problem, power is a problem, RelianceFresh can't do a business due to your middlemen .... and so on - do you consider that can be a hotspot? Where do you the progress of WB? Nandigram? Do you call it a rational way of industrialization? Militancy is there in many underdeveloped countries more or less but your Nandigram has been a class of genocide. The Ganges is drying in WB, the situation is not really very healthy. IT companies - they are primarily call center jobs. If your CITU union gets active, we'll see the fate - already a few companies moved out to Bangalore. We have seen 27 years of Left Front and saw how much progress Left Parties made compared to other major cities. BTW, how many international flights do you get in Kolkatta? Do you mind comparing with Mumbai - leave alone Delhi? I believe you'll agree more international flights mean more of business. Personally - I am an Indian and no chink agent.

Mr Yasawant please come out of Mumbai and you will realise there are much better cities to live than your city of slums. And for your kind information please know your geography, Nandigram is not in Kolkatta. Please remember your history also, the city of Kolkatta fed the whole country before independence.
A city in UAE?? Who are they going to employ? People coming from South Asia?? UAE is good only at building huge useless (and tasteless) buildings with petro-dollars and flogging every coloured non-Arab employee of theirs.
Communists destroyed not just Bengal but the Bengali ethos. Hard to imagine Vivekananda was born here. Bengalis specialize in dismissing Hinduism and kowtowing to mullahs. Shame !

Before you shed shame on bongs don forget that India is known to the world because of bongs! All nobel laureates, oscar winners, greatest singers, writers, poets, CEOs of 70% MNCs, scientists in NASA and everywhere are from Bengal. Bengal brought industrialisation to India. Don forget no other state or race has sacrificed so many people for freedom than bongs. If there weren't bongs you would be licking a Briton butt. You must be a paki or south indian.... Remember "What Bengal thinks today india thinks tomorrow"

arrey babba no one is dissing Bengalis who u derogatorily call Bongs. Bengalis r cool, most talented and brilliant..what beats me is how such a gifted race had forsaken is brilliant Hindu heritage that produced great luminaries like Vivekananda & Bankim and started flirting with a suicidal irrational idealism of Communism which has completely neutered this race. I can sympathize with people who were behind not going forward, but Bengal was forward in everything, how can it have chosen this path to suicide????

No it is a real exciting place... Kolkatta is an exciting place for those who want to avoid work. there are hartals, strikes, and bandhs and rallies and countless talks on why Bush is evil, america is bad etc etc
This article is biased and uninformed,Hyderabad doesnt have any blackouts, perhaps it has the best electricity supply than any major city, major disadvantage in both states is cheap politics,AP is the only state where development is a serious election issue.
Hyderabad will overtake bangalore and mumbai soon.

oh! yeah... Osmania university hyderabad.. World famous for Gays and Fake Engineers...
Heard that famous, Mass Firing of Fake Hyderabadi Engineers... what a shame!
Some of greatest social reformers and philosophers came from Kolkatta... Be it Vivekananda or Raja Rammohan roy or Tagore.
but all of them lived before the CPM rule of 1970s...
the 4 nobel prize winners of Bengal all were born and grew up in a Bengal where there was no CPM rule.
30 years of CPM rule has destroyed all spirit of inquiry and sense of thinking among the elite and created a communist worshipping class blindly worships Mao, Marx and Buddhadeb

No, all nobel prize winners of Bengal all were born before independence.
Amartya Sen, Mother Teresa or Dr Yunus are all post independence. Nobel is not the only criterion, Bengal is always blessed with exceptional talent because the society nurtured it and an Indian pride advanced it. That is all gone it seems- Bengalis are now international with fashionable idealism. They got no religion no nationalism.
