People only see the outer face of Calcutta. Without knowing the City properly they comments like a full. I hate them who think that Kolkata has nothing to give. But it is absolutely wrong conception. Calcutta has a potential what very few city in India have.What Kolkata thinks today, rest of India thinks tomorrow. It has a rich culture, heritage, good people, etc. It is most safe city in the World.It is booming now. And about Bengali? today they r everywhere in the world. Most intelligent community as they are known. Kolkata, rather Bengal is a place of Rabindrantah Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Amrtya Sen, Sorav Ganguly.........and the list goes on.Anything more anyone wants to know about Calcutta & Bengal??

Show your emotions at 'someplace else kolkata peoples are very narrow minded and cannot tolerate even peoples coming and staying from other districts they always fear losing jobs to the superior. Just wake up and jave peoples in management from all over india and not calcasians

Thats the point Calcutta lives in the past glory which no doubt is great and they have contributed.Mr Amartya Sen though a Bengali has stated he has nothing to do with Calcutta.Saurav has always been good. Lets not ride on anybodys shoulders and with a great past why cant we have a great future though we had a miserable present.

There are people with names respected in all fields. Yes Bengal and Bengalis have done so much and I respect them too for this. But think. After so long list Bengal could not produce a modern leader who can set example like Chandrababu Naidu, Manohar Parikar, with a progressive mind. On part of progress your leaders have closed Jute & Cotton mills at Burdwan, Konnagar, Bandil, Bali, 24 Parganas, closed Hind Motor, Funds at research institutes like Jadhavpur university blocked, they create nonsense on a pin drop like bandh etc. and take whole city on ransom....This is what you people have to think of and take the right critism in right spirits. I have travelled every part of country many cities of country multiple times. Previously on job tours and now my own business. So I can compare much better every part of country. You are getting pinched by a positive critism. This is what I do not like with people in that part of country. Think how much WB would have achieved with so much natural resources, manpower, intelligence had these rotten people would not have ruled WB for so long....
If you make zero in the first innings and 1 in the 2nd innings its a 100% achievement - same is the story of Calcutta from zero now figures are flaunted of great achievements. I am happy for Calcutta and hope the suffering endured by the graduates who had no jobs or found it difficult because of negative growth all these years and people from 1970 onwards are over. Cannot forget the endless hours of load shedding,strikes,lockouts,militancy,awful roads and the callous attitude of the Govt. Good luck Calcutta and hope you do become the prime state.

Correct Dehradun is ideal compare to Kolkata and Ahmedabad. Fantastic surroundings, Cheaper labour, Tax holidays. excellent communication by Road, rail and Air. Fanstastic climate. DEHRADUN will give hard time to Hyderabad, Bangalore and Pune in coming days...
rule Bengal, I see little hope for Kolkata to thrive. The main support base of communism is rural poor and they will never improve Kolkata as that would make rural poor unhappy. Communists would prefer all bengalis to remain poor rather than create an environment where some can become rich. Throw them out bengalis and join rest of India in growth and development, we do not need these dinosaurs. India has to attract the west and it has to get in FDI, coz India has no free lunch like how those arabs have, indians have to work hard to attract business no other go.

one should see development from non-political perspective. history tells us cpm contributed big way in deindustrializing bengal. but now current cm is pragmatic, in fact he has been voted no.1 investor friendly cm in india and this is not cpim data. instead it is mamata-bjp and all others trying to create hurdles in industrialization. as apolitical person i favour anybody who is in favour of development. furthermore, it is wrong to brand all communists bad. people such as mrinal sen are declared communists, but their contribution to society is beyond question. one might not believe in a particular ideoloy, but, it is foolish on part of a commoner to make statement condemning communists per se.

You should not use such filthy language about people, the state, its CM and the political ideology of the majority of the people (the ruling front won 235 seats out of 294 in the last Assembly election in 2005). To know about good and bad features of any place you need to live in that place. Myself, Mr. Subhsis Mukherjee and Mr. Raja Basu are Bengalis. Would you please tell us your full name, your place of stay, your mother tongue and your political belief. Yes I was in Kolkata (on business trip) and hanged up at hawrah railways station for 24 hours becuase Commies has sposered stike. Auto, taxi all stopped. Evereyone shouting """ Cholbe Na...Cheolbe Na..."". This is the states where state sposors bandh and orders close down...
Well, i am staying outside india but from my heart, i'm true kolkatan and i loved my city previously when there was nothing and love now and in future also. Our Chief Minister Mr. Buddhadev Bhattacharjee is doing best what he can, we the citizen of bengal should support him for the noble cause.

I dont understand your theory. Care to explain more ? In case you were referring to the aryan invasion theory,it has been dis proved by many historians. All Indians are indigenous.
As a Calcutta born person who lives outside the country, this city has never stopped mystifying me !! I used to read reports of the city actually showing lots of signs of improvement under Buddhadev. Then, Nandigram happened and that changed everything overnight in the media. Nandigram, was a huge huge mistake but I sincerely think Buddhadev is the person who can industrialize Bengal. Mamata and her posse are fairly ineffective and really don't have the capacity to rule and take the state to any kinda progress. Buddhadev in my opinion almost leads the state like the modern day Chinese goverment, which sees industrial progress as the future. For the people who think Communism can't bring progress, China is the answer. The key to successful communism is to know when to begin transition into a free market economy and to what degree the economy needs to be opened.
As for Bengalis being pro-Muslim and anti-Hindu, I really don't think, that's true. It's just that we have been more open-minded about religion (Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Buddhism, ..). Also, Communists aren't necessarily the root of all evil in Bengal. Infact, in the 70s when the Communists took over, it really helped rural Bengal. Agreed doesn't have too many rich people or rich farmers but it also doesn't have very poor farmers either. The distribution of wealth is little better than many other states. I know this, because I've relatives who're farmers. But Commies managed to screw Cal. and that'll change soon !!

in my guess you are supporter of bjp led political combine. pls do not show political disappointment here, it dilutes message of the above article. it is our time to celebrate! the great city has again been recognized (umpteenth time of course) by world!
i have been to most of the indian cities... but trust me inspite of heavy local train rush... traffic jams... its the zeal,attitude of ppl of mumbai which makes it so so different than any other place in india... u may not even see much ppl respondin back if sumone say abt mumbai.. coz they dun care.. anywayz keep it up mumbaikars.....
