Govt is sleeping on it's butt.
by V S on Dec 06, 2007 04:31 PM  Permalink

As usual govt. has no clear cut plan on how to tackle population explosion.

The sheer ineptness of the govt. in dealing with such issues is mind boggling.

fuel prices, population explosion.
by Hariharan shankaran on Dec 06, 2007 03:12 PM  Permalink

Petroleum subsidy has to be studied by experts and should be taken away from politicians. When there is an international pricing, petrol should be sold at international rate. But in India always it is more. Where the subsidy is going then? The Centre should device certain parameters for the collective growth of the entire Indian Union irrespective of party affiliation or caste consideration. If population growth has to be controlled then there should be proper rule that should be followed by every family. Leaders are supposed to tackle such issues than concentrating on mudslinging.

woe india

The folly of Indian fuel subsidies is one example of how bad demographics and bad democracy jointly threaten the country's future. In this fiscal year, the Indian government - wary of popular discontent - will spend an estimated $17.5bn or 2 per cent of national output on fuel subsidies because it refuses to pass on the greatly increased world price of energy to its citizens.

In theory the subsidies go to the poor, but in reality they are often diverted to benefit the urban rich. Perversely, subsidies also counteract such feeble attempts as there are to improve energy efficiency, and they drain the budget of funds that could be used to improve India's woeful education and healthcare.

Demographic dividend, no disaster
by jaideep shirali on Dec 06, 2007 02:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The disadvantages of an increasing population is obvious to anybody except some so called experts, our netas and our babus, who coin idiotic phrases like demographic dividends. I wonder how many of these guys have more than 2 children, if they believe in the theory. Those who have more children did not need the support of this 'dividend' argument either, so this matters least to them. We need to control our population, education is the only way out, as then practical factors push the religious factors (about birth control)into the background, due to sheer necessity of survival. Lastly this indiscriminate population increase will lead India to ecological disaster.

WHAT NONSENSE YOU ARE TALKING ????

MORE POPULATION = BIGGER MARKET = BIGGER BUDGET = BIGGER POWER = BIGGER STATUS = BIGGER STANDARD = BIGGER HAPPINESS = HAPPINESS AND SAFETY.

BIGGER POPULATION = BEST FOR EVERYONE.

Jalaluddin.. iam sorry to say, but u hv spoken like a true muslim...

uneducated/non-talented population will always be a burden on society.
Bigger population will be good, if they are educated & skilled. But in a poor country like India, if you have BIG population, then we dont have enough resources to educate all... so for poor countries like India, BIG POPULATION = BAD
