A few thoughts
by Anil Gonsalves on Aug 24, 2007 06:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Some gentleman here have written that we are Indians first. Unfortunately, that is not
and never will be the case. When I go to TN, I will be a NIndians. When I go to NI, I will be a Goan. When I go to Karnataka, I will be a pavallah, to WB, I will again become a north indian. Only when I leave India will I become an Indian. As long as we are in India, we will always be seen as outsiders in every state where we either do not speak the mother tongue of the state or speak it in a way which shows we are not natives.

A Maharashtrian in Bengal will always be seen as an outsider, beyond a point no one will trust him. So also for a Bengali in Tamil Nadu or a Tamil in GUjarat. Local people everywhere mistrust others from other states. Try not knowing Bengali in WB or Gujarati in Gujarat.
We are Indians when we leave India.

Actually, our regional identity is a concomittant to our Indian one. We cannot be Indians first, we can be Kannadigas and Indians first, both going hand in hand. ONce we are Indians, the regional identity will always accompany us-if I'm an Indian first, I will always be a Keralite, Bengali, Telugu first also. One cannot be ahead of the other.

These problems of regionalism also keep cropping up because of the lack of decentralization in our country. We have states as big and populous as European countries, being ruled by Delhi. What we need is decentralization of a lot of powers,; and at least 50 % of the Central taxes to be kept with the state governm

I support the step taken by Mayawati Govt.in UP. It is very courageous stand by the govt. there should be some one to think of poor. Growth of country does not mean growth of only reliance, airtel, wipro.
Our economists are showing inflation at 4.0 % while Vegetables ahave increased 300% in last one year. I hope price of vegetables have no role in inflation calculation.
Regards

Prabhaker

TATA's Titanium Di Oxide plant.
by Neutral on Aug 24, 2007 06:01 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Whats happening in Titanium Plant?

1)      TATA has planned to acquire around 16000 acres of land in Tirunelveli & Tuticorin districts
2)      Govt is forcing to acquire this land from farmers in order to sell to TATA
3)      Govt says that these farmers will get job after Titanium Di Oxide plant is established here
4)      Govt says that illegal mining is done here & they want to stop it

Controversies

1)      More than 18000 farmers are affected due to this accusation
2)      It is upto the farmers to decide whether he should sell or not to sell his land. But now, they are forced to
3)      The deal should be directly with TATA and farmers. Why is govt acting as middle man to get the land at very low rate
4)      Most of the area is fertile land.
5)      If TATA sets up the plant, it would need more chemical engineers where as those people giving out the land are only farmer and they will surely not get the job
6)      Even if they get the job, TATA has planned only for around 4000 people. What will happen to rest 14000 people.
7)      These owners of the land will become office boys, peon etc
8)      Market value of the land is Rs 1.16 lakhs per acre where as TATA is ready to pay only Rs 52,000 per acre.

Mr. Neutral,

I am from Tirunelveli and i know the type of land and its market value.....

Its not fertile, cultivable land and whole belt is known for its dryness and desrt look....

Before Tata came, value of land per acre was less than 20,000.....Its because of the entry of Tata and the media hype that land prices have gone up...think what would happen if Tata pulls out...

As a person from that area, i sincerely feel that TATA should be allowed to operate there, which can generate employment and would attract other industries also to near by areas...

You crazy bugger.. wat do U know about Tirunelveli man.. I was born and brought up there.. was I able to survive there after my graduation??

My Parents too own lots of lands in Radhapuram Taluk - Tisaiyanvillai & surroundings.. there we dont even get water to drink.. then how come we have water to cultivate?

All our lands out there are barren.. only those near by the small towns are increasing in land value.. for residential purposes..

If someone gets Rs 40,000 an acre in those area we are verymuch happy to sell them. Dont put crap in here without proper knowldge.

There is no single industry in all those southern states.. other than the SPIC facility in Tutucorin.. In my class during 12th.. we were 58 people.. of which none of them are in Tirunelveli. around 10 in US.. the rest scattered in Chennai, Blore & Hyd..

we need some Industries in Tirunelveli.. dont talk crap against it..

Ramadassu talks non-sense
by Vivekanandan Associates on Aug 24, 2007 05:53 PM  Permalink

PMK must be booted out of India. It is the same Ramadossu who spoke that if any of his family members ever enter the assembly or parliament they can be whipped in public. And he praises that Lovebell(Anbumani) is the best minister. An idiot in hisown mould.
