Many of these messages I read here speak of outsourcing & software/BPO companies in the same context. WHY? Outsourcing encompasses a host of industries. For eg., the highly labor intensive garment industry, who have suffered the most due to the rise of the rupee. We need to be tolerant of all industries. Every job requires talent. I think the angst & animosity that people have towards software/BPO employees is about the high salaries on offer. That is only because companies can afford to pay them that. Domestic facing companies, including software companies, do not pay that much since customers here do not value labor. We want everything cheap. That's one reason why IT biggies do not service domestic clients. But now, things are changing even for non-IT companies in India - manufacturing, construction, engineering, & other industries are all paying much higher salaries since all talent was flowing into IT. Where demand increases & supply drops, salaries rise! Unfortunately, we people, unlike in the USA, continue to think that everyone is born equal & hence must have equal share of profits, similar salaries, careers, etc. That will never be the case, as it was never made to be. All other things like caste, education, opportunity being equal, humans will always try to outdo each other & reach greater heights. No reservations or quotas will ever change that. Only excellence & meritocracy will take India forward! We should build an equal opportunity society to propel INDIA ahead!
