I dont understand why so much of hue and cry for appreciating rupee. Though it is hitting the exporters but all of them may adjust and fine tune in forthcoming days. Whether importers benefit or exporters loose, in long term having a strong rupee will be good for the country.
We indian are suffering from rupee appreciation, just because we trade in doller currency our import and export. While importers get benefited exported suffered. So they should deal in Either Rupee currency or Other then dollar currency. During childhood I read a story of POet Kalidas, He was cutting the same branch of the tree he was sitting on.
Similarly Exporters are trading in same currency against which our currency is getting stronger. Nowhere in the past when ruppe was depreciating American were crying, just because they were trading in their own currency and benefiting our of its appreciatin. So as long as kalidas remain in India the things will move like this sanjaykojha. We are cursing the boon for our own folly.
Business has to grease the palms of govt officials at each stage. Bureaucracy and officers of Police, Sales tax, income tax, excise , Customs, Transportation, Railways are at the neck of an exporter to suck his blood. While unscrupulous businessmen enjoy their patronage the honest ones are fleeced and loose their competitiveness. An exporters have to shed 10 to 30 %of the cost of a product on the govt officials to smoothen its export. If this expense is reduced to half, the export will still be competitive. Raids should be on govt officials in addition to those on businessman.

Businessmen suck bloods of common people. For them business means their profit and others loss. Don't blame gov. officials. Only business people try to take favour form the ambiguous law and pay for it. look at ambanis

You are probably getting a job because of some businessman. If not, you can choose to be jobless
I happened to see an australian blog site and saw an article about BPO,youth's resentment and comments of several US and australian citizens. It is eye opening. All agreed that US dollar will go down further as global economy tries to stabilise and come in equilibrium.More dollars coming to India and China and trade deficit of USA is bound to make it go down. But then Indians are having nice time in imports and we import more than we export. So why cry? It is mere adjustment of figures with final result in our favor. Secondly ,Indians have so long been kept under protected environment and sarkari babus managed system that they start crying. Is it necessary to do business in Dollars? Is exchange rate mainstay of competitiveness of any industry/country?That is silly. Why can't we force US and European customers to pay more dollars per item of export?Because we sell low order goods and trash. We have no USPs and technology command. Most exporters are merely labor jobs.India is no where in technology based exports of its own.Our R&Dis almost zero.Copying and pasting is very popular right from Indian constitutions(1948)writitng to today in all fields including PhD and fraudulent research in 100s of Labs.It is time we learnt lessons. With globalisation levelling is bound to happen.American dollars will go down to kill global competition.Huge salaries have been fixed by Indians CEOs/employees meanwhile, aping USA salaries in nam eof liberalisation and making hay while sun shine.Foolish

First Of All Proff.. Can you please update us with the Austrilian Blog.. so that we reader can also get information. .. There may be lot of reasons, somebody should also ponder about the bleak of NRI's medium and low skilled workers in gulf whose monthly earnings have gone down drastically and they have to put their hands in to their savings to remit their earnings. Instead of increments, and also adding fuel to the fire is the spiralling cost of living in dubai, GCC's.
All the workers while coming here still believe their earnings will be multiplied by 12 per AED UAE Dirhams, and finally taken to surprise while remitting find their earnings multiplied by 11 rs Per AED.

very well said ! I am with you. Keep ur dollars with you and remitt when the government changes, be sure that a dollar will fetch u 50Rs. in a years time. Dont bother about the interest rate you will lose in India by remitting now. Mark my word!
I do not agree that depreciation in rupess will affect the export in long run. rather now indian market has to be more productive. After all IT sector is in a pretty mature stage and they can definetely cope up with the current situation for the sake of country's economy. Some sectors like textile, should be give some special previledge by government by giving some off on some duties/taxes. we should not forget that there is a huge population which live below povertyline and therefore inflection check is necessary by keeping track on rupess.
When the liberalisation started the exchange rate was around 38-39 per dollar. Now it went to 45-46.Then the importers suffered . the exporters enjoyed They never gave the consumer any benefit. The IT companies enjoyed a lot of surplus. Every employee reaped the benefits in abundance. They were richer by the day. BUt the enginerring industries were hit hard by the weak rupee. The real management lies in doing the balncing act at all times. They always want every factor to be in their favour so that they are always in the comfort zone. By sgtrengthening of the Rupee only a handful is affected. Majority if benefitted by lower cost of imports, oil, crude metals and engg goods. Let it reamin so. For the sake of hand ful let us not disturb the mejority. Let them tighten their belt and effect c ost cutting and come pout of the difficulties, The net profit has only come down. It ha not become negative. Let them work on lean and become properous. Vrajaraman

Rajaraman - Pls update ur self when the liberalisation started the exchange rate was 19-20. The world bank gave us loan at very less rate of intrest but when the loan was repaid the exchange value was 33 -34 Just imagine how we were robbed.

Viccy vora. World bank will not gain due to appreciating dollar. what they get is only interest amount. But the loss would be for the country for buying at higher rate than the purchase rate. But that does not inflow of the world bank.

Why dont the Govt not taxing IT companies , they are making good profit. It and service sector should be taxed like other manufacturing industry, if u r running a small scale industry in an industrial area u have to pay all taxes but still in STPI's thease huge software cos diditn pay any tax except income tax. this has to stop treate all industries as same
