India producces more talent
by Rajendra Vidwans on Apr 25, 2007 04:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Talent has to be first defined. There are some acceptable criteria roughly as below:
1. NObel award winners
2. Pulitzers, Booker award winners.
3. More olympic, tennis, Hockey, cricket award winners,
4. More diseaes erradicated.
5. Less poor hygiene related diseases.
6. More inventions and discoveries.
7. More revolutionery sofwares than pirates.
8. More cleaner air, water, less pollution
9. cleaner less adulterated food,
10 More discipline, less noise on roads etc etc etc

If any / all of these can be met and more then talent is there and it is showing.
Where does India stand in these?

How many games have you played in your school? have you ever thought of making it a career?
Dont tell me you have never used any pirated software.
I hope you always follow traffic rules.
In India you have people who would spit on the roads, throw garbage everywhere, break traffic rules.. but the same people would act like good citizens when they go to another country. It is this mentality of the people which is putting us down.

Rajendra,

Try to understand TALENT and talent to get an award. If i teach you algebra and if you are talented then you can solve 1000 of problems but it does not mean that you can win a mathmatic award.

Indian do not get awards becuase they are not SMART rather they are intelligent.

Let me define, intelligent and SMARTness. If a value 1000 rupees notes and coins are scattered then a SMART person will lift up highest VALUES note or coin FISRT while an intelligent will lift up what he will get first.

Indians comes in intelligent field and all intelligent people are TALENTED. Do you know an indian guy developed a machine which saves 60-70% (mistakes regrated) LPG gas but he had not got any award. While a lady (writter of harry potter) has got so many awards what I thinks is non sense.

Invention of that (LPG) machine can our life better not stories of HARRY POTTER. But you know who got award.

So, dont compare TALENTS with awards. Both are different. Sometimes dumb person scores 70% by mugging up and gets award (practically dont know) while practical and talented person scores 55% becuase he can not mug up and can not write in good way.

Many peple of chinese, koreans, japanese, african etc. origin have also done very well in the US. How does it makes their countries great by default? Yes, indeed, we should be proud of being Indian. But it looks like these days are numbered what with the politician-driven change in the system of natural merit among its citizens. Today, merit in India is worse than a four-letter word. And this is because the poison of hatred and jealousy is being spread by those who lack merit themselves and want others not to work towards it. Almost all the achievements of Indians listed above are outside India - is it not shameful that we cannot give merit an opportunity in its own country, instead we bemoan the meritorious for earning it outside. Wah India, mera Bharat mahan!

This land is reserved...for the mediocre and the selfish politicians!
by vijairaghavan PG on Apr 25, 2007 03:57 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It seems the minions of our Government and the politicians with the lowest nationalist-content in them are hell bent on bringing about a severe %u201Ccorrection%u201D in the world%u2019s assessment of India as a land of high intellectual capital. The desperate manner in which they have all been at work to implement their quota agenda makes one believe that they would rather have the world perceive India as the country of mediocre non-achievers, rather than the razor sharp brains for which we are getting kudos as of now. And the media in India too does not appear concerned about the highly toxic effects of a vertical divide in the middle of the societal fabric between castes and communities, which augurs ill for the country. More activisim is called for from the so called %u2018intellectually%u2019 free press to bring home this truth to the majority.

It seems there is no end to the callous approach of the HR Ministry led by one whose academic credentials are still a mystery, in pushing the quota story ahead irrespective of the sharpest rebukes from respected individuals, academics, ex-bureaucrats and even the judiciary at the highest level. It is obvious that India comes last in their scheme of things. Votes come first, and probably having their own statues installed at street corners and every stinking slum come next. Obviously, with mediocrity ruling the roost all over, it does not look as if India is going to be left with any talent whatever, in any field , in the coming few years; since all the genuine talent will be lapped up by a hungry West. And why not? Life is being made hell for those who have a modicum of talent, as if it is a sin to be born with any amount of brains in this country and the quota pushers are for ever making a pitch for more and more in the most critical areas of governance, industry, and academia. And to top it all, the highly unwholesome criticism of NRIs in most discussions, for their so called lack of loyalty to India is sickening and smacks of sheer unfettered jealousy for those who have done well for themselves, inspite of the best efforts of the unendowed to keep them down at any cost. What would they want them to do? Stay on in India and work as cable operators or couriers when the Government cannot offer jobs in highend research labs (presuming they exist at all) or industry, in keeping with their talent, just to become eligible for them to earn the right to be called %u201Cpatriotic%u201D by those who have no right to a judgement in the first place?

Arjun Singh and co. will do well to know that a country that cannot be honest in its recognition of individuals%u2019 merit cannot claim their loyalty as a matter of right. %u201CAsk not what the country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country%u201D was said by the late John Kennedy to his countrymen. Whether we like it or not, the US not only does much for its own meritorious citizens, but also for those from outside. And in the process has earned the right to advise accordingly. No wonder there is a worldwide scramble for emigration to their shores. The way it is going now, in a few years, this will be a land of delivery boys and menial labourers masquerading as policy makers of this country!

In the final analysis though, the intellectually bestowed among the backward classes and the OBCs should wake up to the reality that the political class in India is only using them as a tool to keep them permanently under their thumb, rather than allow genuine merit and independent thinking among them to come to the fore, by feeding them the placebo of reservations. The twentyfirst century provides a wonderful opportunity for them to realize that the days of upper and lower caste distinctions are over, and perpetuating these non-existent differences in the name of past injustices is a ruse to keep the country divided for the politicians%u2019 own ends. But is anyone listening?

Well said, I second that - the frustration towards this politicians is high, they are the stumbling blocks in the progress of the nation and bank on these ill-agenda of quota system and dividing the country on the basis of caste and class system, itself speaks volume of sheer callousness and stupidity in pursuing these objectives for furtherance of their selfish cause. Its time we do something instead of always blaming policitians for their wrong doings. I feel the youths of the country should bring in a massive changes - let the old order be replaced with new thinkings, new blood in keeping with the time and world order. May be it calls for a blood shed or a revolution of sorts to teach policitians a lesson, may be youths should do a Rang De Basanti! Quota system and caste classifications were relevant in the past, but not now with the advent of globalisation, standardisation of work, quality, efficiency and productivity.

Came across this a while ago....I think its relevant here. Do read....

OLD VERSION...

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer
long building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances
& plays the summer away.
Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.
The grasshopper has no food or shelter so
he dies out in the cold.

MODERN VERSION (excellent)

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer
long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the
shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable
Home with a table filled with food.

The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can
this be that this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house.
Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other grasshoppers
demanding that grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during
winter. Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian
Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the grasshopper.
The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the
grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt
support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance) . Opposition MP's
stage a walkout.Left parties call for "Bharat Bandh" in West Bengal and
Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.CPM in Kerala immediately passes a
law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about
equality of poverty among ants and grasshoppers.

Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers
on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.
Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the Prevention of Terrorism
Against Grasshoppers Act [POTAGA]", with effect from the beginning of
the winter.

Arjun Singh makes Special Reservation for GrassHopper in educational
Insititutions & in Govt Services.

The ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA
and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is
confiscated by the Government and handed over to the grasshopper in a
ceremony covered by NDTV.
Arundhati Roy calls it "a triumph of justice". Lalu calls it
'Socialistic Justice'. CPM calls it the 'revolutionary resurgence of the
downtrodden' Koffi Annan invites the grasshopper to address the UN
General Assembly.

Many years later...The ant has since migrated to the
US and set up a multi billion dollar company in silicon valley.
100s of grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation
somewhere in India ....

As a result loosing lot of hard working ants and
feeding the grasshoppers, India is still a developing
country..... .

Yes, that's true India produces more talent than any countries, but little scope is given for their performance and improvement making them look towards overseas for better opportunities. This trend could be stopped and give them required value addition and monetary motivation in home, so that there is enough retention of these talents. Its time we need to harbour these talents for the betterment of our economy and become a "BACK OFFICE FOR THE WORLD"
