Look my friend, i am a software professional and in the industry for a very long time and with exp i am telling u. i have gone thru a lot to just stay where i am. and i get a feeling that it is not worth it. yes. we all need money. but for that if we are pushing ourselves to the extent that it spoils the health and general happiness, then? More than 30 years are over in my life in trying to run along, in competition at various levels and what is that i am tring to prove? sometimes we would be more happy if we don't keep high ambitions and expectations. u tend to buckle under that weight. we all have only one life to lead and being healthy and being happy is the most improtant thing. and one thing is certain. Happiness is not there in Money. No wealthy man was ever happy.

Talent? A Big Big Question?
by lokendra singh on Apr 25, 2007 05:38 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Basically this is not at all talent. Make it clear. This is not a talent.

This is totally a coolie work. Majority of IT and BPO indian companies and their so called talented, performers, client centric attitiude, quality etc etc is only a coolie work.

Even infosys is coolie company other wise with work force of talented (?), energitic and enthu workforce of 50000 ( errors regreted) are not capable of developing simple OS, product which ordinary person can use and benefit from.

Their patro , etc is only for displaying, theu dont have talent they are just collies.

THey are just hype making and leaving on 45-48$ rate. Let it come down to 38 or 30 , all will be writing a suicide note.

They are not able to survive in local market. Local market do not give them a penny. They are begging out just telephone operator at the end of the day.

THIS IS NOT AT ALL TALENT.

MAKE CLEAR THIS IS NOT TALENT.

May not be a coolie... but this is not talent...
Getting the best students from best institutions and working on areas which are totally different. Do they really need engineers to do the work they are currently doing.... Everybody from Electronics,Electrical,Civil,Mechanical join infosys and immediately stopping what they have learned in college.

Why do the govt fund heavily for the engineering... Think carefully......

Perfect. u r absolutely right. we all are currently living in an illusion. we may be or may not be talented. but i am sure the IT boom or Biotech boom is not because of this "so called" talent, but because of the conversion value and benefits which can be obtained from it. we are living in an hyped environment and fooling ourselves.

go and check out number of patents on indian names. may be then you will understand we are TALENTED. First compare INFRASTRUCTURE given by our industries and government. To reach office you give 1.5 hour for 4-5 km. What R&D you will do? But still R&Ds are going on. If you dont know what R&D have been done how many in pipe, stop shouting, better to know it.

RE:Talent? A Big Big Question?
by Manish Mishra on Apr 25, 2007 06:19 PM  Permalink
Lokendra,

You can justify what you said, but what you think is not a reality.

Let me be more clearer. First I am not an employee of Infy. Second, I am from IT sector.

Infy is service providing company. Their infra structure is based on Client fundamentals, hence their business will run by clients. And if you do some job of others for money, it can not be said "Coolie". If it is then, give me any example which is HAVING talent and not doing a coolie work. What an IS, IPS officer does. Can you say what they are doing is for MONEY. No you cannt. They have some attitude for their jobs. Likewise, their are people who have attitude to WORK for client(s). Their are people who want to be telephone operator, their are, who want to be service provider. Same is here, they take work, completes it and makes money, what is COOLIE NESS in this.

And as for as your R&Ds concerns, there are people who can make OSes in India but probabily you will be first person denying to use it. Basic thing is Marketing. Infy/Wipro/IIT people can invent it but can they make money from them. No.

Do you know there are people in NCST/CST who made navigation in Indian languages, but none of we are using it. How they will make money? IT and BPO companies are business oriented. They will do business not R&D. Check out IITs, DRDOs they are doing R&D, but how many of us knows it.

You should appriciate that Indian are so talented that they are able to understand THE LOGIC and IMPLEMENTATION invented/developed by others in short time. They are talented becuase they are able to convert some non sense in meaningful. They are talented becuase they are able to find some others mistake and also rectifies it. Please check out meaning of TALENT.

Do you know that an Indian guy developed an OS which was much more faster than LINUX and Windows. It was taking only 33% to load; of what Windows takes. But you know Bill gates not that guy. Why?

We have talents, some are in GOVENTMENT sectors, some are in private sector. What you will say those guys who are CEO of MNC companies. What they are doing? As per your defination, I can say they are also COOLIE doing others works for MONEY and not able to create a company which can servive for Indian market.

I am able to develope an OS, but I will not do that becuase to live life I need money. To get money I have to work as per client/job requirements.

For your information, infy, wipro these companies are business oriented client focused. And unfortunately these clients are not indian. Very few are indian. Thats why you are saying COOLIE. If they were indian companies/govenrment they statement can differ, probabily.

In US for a very less population there are so many companies and in India for huge population there are few companies. Hence, load to these comapnies are more as companies are less and population is more but still they are serviing and that's why they are talented.

Try to understand business policies of companies, then make such nerdy statement.

Everybody is doing what they worth for. Nobody is coolie. That is what I understand and hopes you too will understand.

RE:Talent? A Big Big Question?
by Satyajit Mahapatra on Apr 26, 2007 07:30 PM  Permalink
Excellent reply! Unfortunately, some people have very limited understanding and are pessimistic by nature (and also keep an inferiority complex). Compare the situation with what was there 15 years back. Around that time a talented person would either have to be staunch nationalist to stay back in India or look towards west if he was a normal guy. Now, every kind of talent has a place in Indian industries so you can work on good technologies and earn decent amount of money too. About not many Indian getting nobel prizes etc, the reason is infrastructure. The moment you have as good infrastructure it paves the way for churning out nobel prize winners in decent numbers , Not every nobel winner is a genius; yes they are highly talented people who on getting good support can do great things. I think after 20 /30 years you will have quite a few from India. In India many people have little respect for work ethics. In fact why would you talk derogatorily even "Coolies". They earn their livelihood with hard work and should be appreciated for the contribution to the society. The worthless critics are the most "untalented" people we have.

Hello Manish,
You are article is good. But the facts are not of real value or value only to, if any one is "Indian patriotic and do not understand the complete picture" and living like frog in a small well. India is not big on any inventions or any inventions worth of any money value.

Also, your comments that Indian are making the "Nonsense" to sensible by reading on short time". Indians are doing a low end jobs..Not on big designs. I am not sure about the Infosys designing the cockpit panel. mmmm.. It must be of any thing of lowest denominators. Not a big ticket item.

It is not Indians are not talented or of lesser skills. But our country education system is very far behind in the "knowledge application" and we just do the "cramming". The kids who ever are "good CD or DVDs" - they do replay good are todays smart students'..India is very far behind US , china in alot of areas.Sorry this is the real state of affairs. We pray and wait till good things happen...

What do we do with Talent?
by Krishna on Apr 25, 2007 05:32 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We are just running after money like mad dogs. In that process, we are loosing our health, general happiness, family relations, and over all peace of mind. I think we should learn to be content and should keep our ambitions low enough to be able to lead a better and quality of life. What fun do we get if we roam in great cars and flights and live in luxury houses if we don't have the good health and general happiness?

Quantity is obviously there...look at our population. What about quality? India needs a big improvment in the quality of education.
majority of IT jobs we get from US is donkey work.
very few percentage of Indians do high-end rocket science type work.

India produces all sorts of people because we breed like rabbits. But not many REAL talents - olympic medal winners, nobel prize winners etc. Anyway when food and fuel shortages set in - lets see where our 'talents' will take us.
