''Power'' Ministry
by Anantha Krishnan on Apr 24, 2007 06:00 PM  Permalink

Sometimes the medium of cinema brings forth a powerful message very relevant to society to govern itself. I write with reference to the movie "Nayak" The moral was that unless we govern ourselves properly, everybody will take us for a ride. That the Minister was not able to take decisions in the interest of the country leaves a lot to imagination. The election commission was a low profile office till a person like Mr T.N. Seshan came to power and showed what can be done.
If the top management (read the Prime Minister) wants to make any department (read Ministry) effecient and effective, it has to put the right people at the right place. The example again is of the Railways - which was turned around. There was scope for this right from the beginning. It took a person like Mr Lalu Prasad Yadav and his team to take the right decisions to bring this around.
This is the top down approach. In case this does not work, upto a certain extent there will be inertia among the people as to who will be the first one to object. But once the first objection comes, there will be such a large scale revolution that "Power" will really be an important agenda in any political party's.

The Power Industry has become a "trading" industry. The governments have withdrawn from this service industry. All sorts of corrupt people have come into this industry.Unless ,the Government amend ACT 2003 and realizes its duty to the poor people, India will never be self sufficient in power.

power deficit or power minister deficit
by Dinesh Solanki on Apr 22, 2007 03:44 AM  Permalink

What Ms Aditi Phadnis has written , should have been concern of PM who can not be unaware of power situation in the country but it seems that Congress culture is more towards OBC, Reservation, Timely availability of bank account money to Quatrocchi etc.
PM also had spoken about bureaucratic reforms and allocating more funds to Education which is another crying need about which PM spoke often but has done hardly anything worthwhile.
It seem that PM is not even embarassed by two supreme court slaps on executive about CBI- Quatrocchi and OBC reservation and is content to remain the HMV ke Sitare (His master's voice at 10 Janpath who has hardly any rexperience in public administration. )
Pm who is gentleman Economist has also failed to control inflation and his presence has been detrimental to common man's budget.
If the boss does not recognise the deficiencies of his subordinates and do something will he recognise his own ?
Wonder why Ms Phadnis did not mention about the person who should have taken some action in case one of the critical parameter of Indian economy kept failing continuously ?
At least we can hope that Economist PM may understand the implications of power sector failures if he finds time from saving his embarassments from supreme court etc.
Is he damaging his reputation as econimist and even as a gentleman ? In case gentleman do not have place in murky and dirty indian politics whay is he hanging around there still inspite of repeated humiliation from Left as well ?
Can some enlightened soul educate us uneducated poor souls ?
