MBA-"Mediocre but arrogant" as told by an author in his book which is named so,but to destroy this mediocrity and achieve excellence needs innovation and implementation of creative thoughts & ideas.B-schools should lay emphasis on formulating an enviornment which nurtures innovation par excellence to enlighten a road towards leadership....
One of the vital factors for success in any domain is one's attitude. B schools must look at building the leadership qualities along with fundamentals of business. There must be a lot of emphasis on personality grooming which is missing at present. It is imperative to expose the students to the real life business decision making through guest lectures by business leaders.
The basics should be maintained in proper way. Basic in the sense is not merely developing a business organisation or self living style. It should be towards the society. If any MBA or IIM student think he is going to be a successful businessmen merely joining the institute then its a contradiction. The organisational behaviour should be towards the society and uplifting of the whole nation.
i completely agree with MR.SHANTANU prakash, its an INDIAN INSTITUTION,so y not think about INDIA`S economy, social problems, such schools should teach or make students capable, and handle the problems that india is facing...they should adapt the global ideas and implement them in India..wat do u guys say??
I wonder if MBA degree is at all needed? It teaches u things that u already know(i know, i am ignorant). It is basically a placement cell wasting time for 2 yrs.
I havfe been to an institute where there was particular focus on building ur own self, survive in adverse conditons, on the whole a simulation of the bad world, How ever I wd like to point out that the subjects that are included are of sohuge dimensions that it wd be nearly impossiblle to put it in 24 months , if not more, MBA is a building block where ur groomed in a simulated environment, there shld be enough scope for trial and error sessions in a simulated environment and later on when ur in the real world u have the luxury of experimenting, with a back up of experience in a suim ulated world, after all if u knew 100% what out come wd be , the thrill of experimenting wdnt be there
Most of the Indian B-schools are have excellent curriculum but are theory based. This may not be the best education that IIMs and other schools could give. Foriegn MBAs cater to this need of students who want to be exposed to a global environment. ScChools in USs as good but expensive while compared to schools in Canada and Australia. Imagine every student studying in US, Canada or other countries and returing to India to work. Just feel that day is not far away.
Its indeed true what you have mentioned in your article. However, I think this is related mainly to schools where you dont ahve foreign students. I have exceptional respect and regard for the IIMs. However, admitting only Indian students (or mostly indian students), it doesnt open up to other cultures. This is one of the main reasons y IIMs dont get a good ranking (though they r considered a good school abroad). In a good American or european biz school, you r likely to meet people from China or brazil or other countries. your faculty tends to be from various nationalities and hence the cross culture exchanges are very high. People tend to think in terms of "how do I run the same biz in India/China/France etc..." Even the points like a few days in a village is being practised by some schools to get an insight. But I truly feel its high time indian school starts doing things like these and be ahead of the times! Please dont get me wrong for my opinions, these are things I experienced myself. Regards

Just to add that I completely agree that no biz school could guarantee success and an Mba boosts self confidence and opens up opportunities, but in no way its a midas touch.
The above mention is the right one and valid for development of future business leaders. But the practical applicability of management studies need to be validated in typical Indian corporate culture which is in the transition stage of moving towards global context. Specially managing the industry, service, manufacturing sector, many business leaders do realise the lesser applicability of business school education. How great Dhirubhai Ambani has flourished the business in Indian context should be the subject of high level thinking. I understand the clear focus towards the goal and long run racers can achieve the same than the short run racers to improve bottom line.
