The road to Success
by on Jul 09, 2007 12:09 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I will share some of my thoughts by reading few quotes:

"If you think you are beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, you don't. If you'd like to win but think you can't, it's almost certain you won't." John C. Maxwell

"Life's battles don't always go To the stronger or faster man, But sooner or later, the man who wins Is the man who thinks he can." - David Brinkley

"Others can stop you temporarily, but you're the only one who can do it permanently" - John C. Maxwell

My advice keep your eyes on your goal, change course if the current methods are not working, follow with conviction to succeed and go with your full courage without loosing sight of the goal. There are very few people who take the courage to move out of their safety nest and step in the wild to discover something new, this is my definition of a budding enterpreneur. Some of you have taken that first step now follow though with courage and conviction.

Use VC's if they fit the need, use Banks if they fit the need. Keep in mind that these are all only steps to reach your goal "The Finale".

Monty
..a fellow enterprenuer..

I believe that IMMORTAL burning desire itself will teach you all the gimmmicks needed to succeed in business. Whether it is getting funds or getting external mgmt support or whatever...

Live examples are Bill Gates, Narayana Murthy, Dirubhai etc.

well unfortunately, in current times most of the VCs and PEs are more interested in a short time gain.. they dont want to block their money for long.. This creates lots of unstability in the company they are venturing into.. not only into management but also employees. Pl. note that for PEs we are just a line in their portfolio.. The way we buy shares and keep a watch. Any share that doesnt gives us a certain return.. say 15-20% yearly we sell off.

Similarly, PEs have been playing with the companies they are investing into. They buy a company.. Start doing aquisation (Inorganic growth) using the profit from the existing company.. so. The exiting company has a burdon to show profit. after catering the debt they incur during the inorganic growth.. The organic growth targets remains same.. however more pressure mounts based on PE's goal of inorganic growth too. To meet the PE's requirement and to safegaurd their interest (read stocks and their jobs) management starts putting undue pressure on employees.. milking them bad.. this results into unstability , unseecurity among the employees..

But, we dont live in ideal world.. its a market game and we have to live with that :-)

I agree with Vimal. I have seen PE shops killing long term capability of the companies for short term gains. Their target is to show improvement in EBITDA anyhow over a period of 3-4 yrs, get their returns and get out.
