It is not
by alphabet alphabet on Apr 04, 2007 06:53 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is the increasing divide between rich and others which we perceive as they. Can at current property / flat prices in big metros an honest middle level employee inprivat / public sector ever dream to have a house of his own - leave apart insecurity of old age. Please progres and industrialise but there has to be social equity.

Lowering living costs will be one of the OBVIOUS benefits of SEZs.

As Industries relocate out of the metros, they will take their employees with them and build homes in these SEZs. This will reduce demand for housing in the metros, and hence the rents/prices. It is a win-win situation.

But India is dedicated to staying a dirt-poor agrarian economy and the economics-illiterate have spiked SEZs.

CBI did not investigate Medhapatkar.
Mamta Benerjee is a still bigger fish, CBI will not dare touch her. Finally it needs political will for the CPI to silence her if it wants the project to move. For Environmentalists > They have to decide if they want Indian public bare footed walking on dirt road ( as Plastic chappal and Tar road are antienvironment) or they want them to move on to Bike / Cars.

How 'they' can spoil India Inc's dream
by franklin wilson on Apr 04, 2007 06:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

my philosophy on realizing India's dream
1.) Round up all corrupt politicians (which is probably almost all of them) and shoot all of them.

2.) Find the poorest of the poor and improve their standaed of living.

Poor benefit from Rich
by Sateesh Nuakala on Apr 04, 2007 06:17 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

These poor people always oppose such reforms (SEZ etc), but they forget that all the subsidies they get is from the tax on salaries paid by the rich. By preventing people becoming rich, they would loose the advantage of these subsidies..

PS: What I mean by Rich is the salaried people and the industries. By SEZs, I am sure there would be lot more salaried people, hence lot of revenue to the government in the form of taxes.

The economics illiterate are dedicated to killing the goose that lays the golden egg. Commie-leftie simpletons want to kill industry. That way no one gets rich, no one creates jobs and no one pays taxes. They want everyone to stay equally poor and equally miserable.

Look at W Bengal before and after Commie rule.

RULING STATE GOVT. FAULTY PLANNING
by Sanjay Gupta on Apr 04, 2007 05:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

THE ENTIRE SITUATION HAS HAPPENED IN MAHARASHTRA BECAUSE THE RULING STATE GOVT. INSPITE OF BEING IN POWER FOR MORE THAN 5 YEARS FAILED TO DO ANYTHING TO GENERATE POWER. SHIV SENA IS TALKING ABOUT JOBS FOR LOCALS ONLY AFTER WINNING THE CORPORATOR ELECTIONS IN MUMBAI. THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT BEFORE ELECTIONS AND THEN THEY WOULD HAVE RELAISED THE POWER OF THE NORTH INDIANS

Let me give you a quick lesson in BASIC ECONOMICS.

In the Short Run if economic growth is not accompanied by similar productivity growth there will be inflation. This trade-off between growth and inflation is called the Phillips Curve. Right now India can safely grow 7-8% a year without inflation.

To slow this growth (of > 9%), and thereby slow inflation, Central Banks raise interest rates.

In the long run, you can raise productivity growth by investment in infrastructure and education. In the SR, you have live wih this inflation-growth trade-off.

Oppositions in the absence of strong political system
by Venkatraman Kannan on Apr 04, 2007 05:42 PM  Permalink

All these oppositions are merely due to oneupman ship of our political class without bothering to think long term. Why the powers to be in the first place did not come out with clear policies for land acquisition ? Let the GOvt. buy the land and provide to the Private players on long lease say 50 years plus instead of making the pvt players to treat the land bank of SEZ into a real estate investment. Simply there is no will on the part of the govt that is getting pulled in all direction by the so called coalition partners !

SEZ should go a head ...what ever might be teh reason behind....
by chetan shetty on Apr 04, 2007 05:31 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

For expample just look at Dubai free zone athourity(JAFZA)...its a great sucess. India can really get benifited by SEZ's ...All these issues by CPI should be slammed and SEZ should go ahead...CPI , CPM doesnt want to work but want equality and get payed for doing nothing...

I agree that India needs large sized SEZ.
But lets us stop comparing Dubai with India.
We should compare apple vs apple. Dubai is very small as compared to India. Just like a lot of Miami real estate was built on Drug money of eighties, Lot of Dubai was built on Gold smuggling to India Billions and Billions of dollers still coming from Iran / Saudi and other arab countries, into Dubai.

India has its own issues, which are differrent than Dubai or Singapore or Hongkong.
