I do not see that India will emerge as the super power in the near future . It will never ever happen. India will forever remain a povertystricken country.
The article entitled 'India will emerge as a superpower is indeed informative dealing inter-alia with the business developments and economic enrichment in the wake of the liberalization and the globalization era during the past decade. The openness and the democratic process are two of the significant factors which will power the engine behind the driving force towards the ultimate goal of Indias achieving superpower status during the current century.
As Manu AB rightly points out that the knowledge of English in India with particular reference to technological interactions with the developed countries while honoring its commitment to the developing countries in various fora has already made India a major player in International Affairs.
What is the reality? India is on the verge of losing foodgrains self-sufficiency & is planning to import foodgrains. USSR was a super power, it did not concentrate as much on the agriculture side as it did in the space race. Soon it had to import wheat from the USA & Canada. There were food-riots in Soviet cities. Now the USSR is no more!
Will the same happen in India? Will India only concentrate on the BPO business (TCS, Infosys, Satyam, WIPRO, HCL) & ignore agriculture? Will we have to depend on foreign countries for wheat & rice? Will there be food-riots in Indian cities?
At least the USSR produced its own weapons. But how much of the weapons India has are indegenously made. Bofors guns are from sweden. Mig fighters are from Russia. Our aircraft-carriers are actually 2nd hand vessels bought from other nations. How can a country become a superpower if it does not manufacture its own weapons? If we buy the weapons from other countries, they would know what weapons we have, the defects & capabilities of it, etc. This information could be passed over to our enemies! How then, can we win over our enemies? "India, a superpower!" in our dream maybe! But on ground, its just India!

Quite reasonable assesment, but why to look at agriculture alone asa problem area.To my mind law and order, corruption, unemployement and to top the list is sheer ignorance of a reasoned understanding of Indian psyche. Most of the intellects dwelve in set of parameters of their choice with leastconcern for fundamental issues. 1.One time we went for extensive public sector when that failed we indulge in privatisation extensively.Public sector indulged in producing consumer goods and matrials such as sugar yarn soap, coooking oil, shoes and what not.Same is for power sector even minihydel projects were to be erected by state. 2.Corporates are taking over the society leaving little scope for small industry and enterpreneur. Now even onions and potatoes need to be sold by corporates. 3.On one hand we keep opening new institutions for professional education but we have little regard for the kind of infrastrustructure most of such institutions have, thye become another set of corporate loot or increase in unemployement levels. 4.The basic education system is gone and its output is of no socio-economic worth.Sme is true for health care Govt hospitals have big budgets for salary and other expenses but one can'r get any services, medicines, injections and surgicals have to be purchased from open market. 4.Safety at work place & common places is questionable ,safety in transportations is a nightmare more and more people die. what do we mean by being super power? will somebody be serious
Sure India has a huge pool of technically competent professionals. But this will never be enough for India to transform itself into a super power. Lets just look at briefly what makes US a super power: 1. Abundant Energy 2. Fantastic Communication and Transportation Infrastructure 3. Minimal Bureaucracy 4. High productivity by Human Capital and Industry. 5. Minimal political intervention in matters of business and commerce. 6. Strength of the economy that attracts trillions of foreign investments year after year..etc etc....We should know better that just English will not be enough to put India in the same orbit as US. There is a price to pay and time to invest. Who knows where India will be in the future. But if we open our eyes and take off our pink glasses there is still a long long way to go before India transforms herself into a true Super Power.
though i am an indian and like to see my country on top , but there are some facts which no body ever mentioned
is india going to be superpower just coz business is growing , i think before even including indian in race of super power , we must look at following points
1) is there good basic medical service 2) are there good basic schools for every one (leave public schools) 3) how about our transportation system 4) how about politics of caste 5) \"Democracy\" haha this is laughable when every body knows in india elections are fought on basis of bullets and power 6) what about drinking water 7) how about food
So this is my request to all those guys who say india will be superpower to consider these points . dont just pump india by just sitting in air contioned offices and reading reports sitting on a dinning table which is often 7 star hotel
The speedier reforms in labour laws , privatisation of power sector , remunerative prices to farm produce , rapid infrastucture creation like roads & ports , encouraging hundreds of foreign universities to set up campuses , and above all stringent laws for refining politics can put India easily on a 15%+ per anuum growth trajectory
I am Doing Small Trading business in China.India is always comparing itself with China.Pl try to vivit China..China is 100 Years Ahead than India.Road,Infrastructure,Airport,Small Towns are developed in a Very Planned way. They are demolishing all old buildings ,and structures and making in a well planned manner. No correption..everything is happing in day and night..I am sure if u people come to China..you can imaginge it is no lesser than Europe or America..

stay in Singapore and one should stay here for a week to understand what is Vision after all. Here every politician is thinking how to make Singapore number one country in world. Once decision is taken, implementation start happening in hours. Here govt employees work more efficiently than private firm employees. To start an investigation on corruption or illegal activities, citizens just have to write a letter to some news dailies. Police will automatically take over once it is published. If you say Indian cant do this, then please be surprise to know current Singapore president is S.R Nathan who is of Indian origin. Biggest enemy of India is chalta hai attitude of common Indians. Once we get over it, we will number one.

Excellent Raghu - One fellow thinks, he is the reason for profits in Railways. - One person knows, How much real power he is having in hi hands to control our largest democracy - One person knows, PM post doesnot matter. -One person knows, Secularism can be shattered. -One person knows, how to divide rule (reservation) -One person knows, how to use communication ministry to the best use(serving his own state at most) -One person knows, Carrying marxist ideology doesnot bring money, only garlands.
This list goes on.Never Ending Dream for power has made Indian government as cults. Probably,we should get another term of slavery to realise our mistakes.
