FDI in Education
by Gopal on Sep 14, 2006 01:01 PM  Permalink

The left parties seem to think that anything that they do not control is against the culture of India. It is time they were all sent packing to Mongolia because that will be the only country in the world that will be thinking like them, while countried like China and Russia from where they get their pay packets will have taken on the Free trade model like the rest of Europe.
God Help India - As long as the Left parties and Congress rule the country they will make sure that the country stays in the dumps.

Pros and Cons
by vedula vishwanath on Sep 14, 2006 12:32 PM  Permalink

As the benefits are so much apparent that we may neglect the subtle cons on allowing 100% FDI in educational sector. We may show welcoming attitude towards pros of this proposal but if we look at the comments made by respected HRD ministry and Left minister they are also not wrong in their views. Commercialisation in education will make it unaffordable for common man, may diminish the value of home institutions. The style of education provided by foreign institutions may cause loss of identity of our education system, there will be dilemma in choice of curriculum for students.

Our system is already fine. So,thrust should be given to improve our own indegenous system to provide world class education in a uniform way to all while retaining those assets for which politicians are apprehensive about.

FDI in education
by cynthia on Sep 14, 2006 11:41 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

FDI in education is must & need of the hour. Myself being a PG in engineering & being in academic field for 10 years, hav found that higher education system is not practical oriented. Professors here r not trained in that aspect. There is no quality research done in India, but Indians do most of the research abroad which is mailnly b'cos of the guidance & funding available there. Defenitly this will prevent brain drain & lead India to Vision 2020. Hoping for the best.

Yes I'm in complete agreement with this.
Vision 2020 is only possible if we can make the Left parties completely impotent ASAP. They were and are a pain everywhere.

Left Parties - A burden to the nation.
by Prakash V M on Sep 14, 2006 11:10 AM  Permalink

Left Parties especially the Marxists and the CPI know only how to bark like mad dogs. They are a burden to the entire nation.

What to speak of the most destructive minded HRD minister India has ever known!

God save this country from such people.

Sajid,

I am unable to understand why everyone should be able to afford this. If these foreign universities set shop in India, they will provide good opportunities to several well-to-do students. The other schools and colleges which charge lesser amounts will surely try and emulate the open and innovative culture of these schools and thus help those at the bottom rung of the society.

What you have written is exactly what a leftist would argue.

Foreign education in india
by Jaya on Sep 14, 2006 11:06 AM  Permalink

Yes I do agree that foreign univeritity will bring more western culture in our society. Although the cosmopoliton culture in big cities are already has become westernised. You will be surprised to know that there is no Marathi medium school in Mumbai. Most of the middle and upper middle class don't bother about own culture. Alreay there is some foreign collaboration education institute is started in mumbai like Kangaroo Kids, Echole Modaile, Kingston University etc.

Foreign Universities in India.
by MP on Sep 14, 2006 11:01 AM  Permalink

Sir,
I think this is an excellent idea. We must endorse this, after the Government sets quality standards that these Universities must follow.
It will conserve wealth that presently flows out to foreign countries, when wealthy students pursue education abroad. It will generate employment in the teaching sector, and our system will get exposed to good educational methods from the advanced west in this field.
All the money collected as taxes from this sector must go into the kitty for upgrading rural education by government sponsored initiatives.
Blind opposition to this idea is myopic, and not to the benefit of the poorer sections. People must stand up against the politicians here, as most politicians will always support keeping the masses ignorant and poor.

Education system in India...
by Ameya on Sep 14, 2006 10:46 AM  Permalink

Well, if Indian Government can redefine the education system/ course curriculum and make it more professional than the current scenario, I think the flow for foreign students can autmatically increase... and hence money...

Government's Role in Education
by Pranav on Sep 14, 2006 10:45 AM  Permalink

Mr. singh, and other leader in Left should understand few basic things. The first and formost in politics is that they should implement the desire of their citizen, not their whims. I agree that if government perform three basic duties, all our problem will be solved. First build infrastucture like schools, hospitals, homes, road; Second provide fair and equall environment for everyone like proper law and order, equall opportunity in education, job and development; and third would be national integraity.

Now if our leader do all this, theres no need of schools, and colleges run by foreigns.

So Mr. Singh and others please please stop doing stupid things and work for the nation.

Foreign Universities
by Bodhisattwa Dasgupta on Sep 14, 2006 10:40 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Whether Foreign investment in education is good and bad, that we will definitely come to know after discussions on various matters. But what I fail to remember since my birth is that, when did the Left Parties support some cause. I mean, everytime there is an issue, good or bad, the Left is always against it. This is one confused party who doesn't have a stand of their own. Whatever will be decided or debated upon, they will be aginst it. Its so funny, and only Indian population can tolerate and vote for such parties.
