acceptalibity of different channel services
by nittur guruprasad on Sep 05, 2006 07:17 PM  Permalink

can it be CAS or DTH without regional channels inclusion they may be useless, because, in our country except in metropolis most people like to view regional channels, may be due to teleserials and local films. The recent launcher TATA SKY could not provide more than two channels of telugu or tamil channels [inthese dd is already a free channel] if survey has done how many vieweres are interested in regional channels and how many are interested in foreign channels and the quality expected from metropolies to townships one can make the difference between DTH, CABLE and CAS service and its necessity, profitability etc.,

Advantages of CAS
by Vaishali on Sep 05, 2006 06:49 PM  Permalink

There is a major confusion in the Advantages of CAS section :

For viewers: ...The cable operators will no longer have any control over the pricing of channels.

For cable TV operators...This allows operators to price their channels according to their popularity.

Please explain

CAS/DTH
by Vinod Sarpotdar on Sep 05, 2006 05:38 PM  Permalink

consumer should pay such heavy amount only if there is no ads on/between programs recd from CAS/DTH.
it should be at nominal cost as the common can enjoy/educate himself.

i.e. a movie which is of 3 hrs is played for almost 4.5 hrs.

CAS is not broadband application
by Piyush on Sep 05, 2006 03:35 PM  Permalink

Ur aticle talks on DTH to have a broadband transmission. Direct-to-Home commonly known as DTH is a satellite service that allows only multicasting.

Infact DTH is severely challenged on interactivity .

If you want to view two different channels, you have to buy two DTH connections. However with one DTH connections you can see same channel in two TV sets.

CAS
by Prakash Rao on Sep 05, 2006 01:47 PM  Permalink

To some extent , under DTH I think we are still at the mercy of the broadcaster who will provide a certain number of channels from which we will have to choose . What happens if the channels which we were watching now fail to get included in the broadcasters list ? For example Dish TV provides only a handful of regional channels !! So it does mean I would need to acquire another dish from a different broadcaster for viewing ?

No can offer Sun TV & Jaya TV together
by Sundar on Sep 05, 2006 01:23 PM  Permalink

TATA-SKY a STAR tv enterprise can give Zee channels and DISH TV a ZEE tv enterprise can give STAR channels. But no can give both SUN TV and JAYA TV channels. They can provide either of these only. As long as they don't provide these two channels in a single platform they can not succeed in Tamilnadu.
