CAS and DTH
by shashikant salvi on Sep 05, 2006 10:28 PM  Permalink

It is being projected that the DTH will 'get you rid of the whims and fancies' of cable operator.

I had been using CTV earlier and now using DISHTV hence some experienced thaughts are here.

Dishtv too changes channels and even the promised channels from the 'bouquet' also change.

STAR being rival of ZEE the DISHTV was not giving any STAR channels. However about a month back STAR channels started appearing freely on DISHTV. Later they announced some cost for STAR channels. But probably there was a poor response. So STAR bouquet was offered free for limited time with Sony subscription.

Now we realise that all this goodness is due to the entry of TataSky.

Conclusion of the story is that whether CTV or SAT-TV there is nothing STATIC .

TRAI must insist that what has been promised will continue at least for 2/3 years?

Incidently remember that Ku band has a problem of outages in heavy rains.

I thnk DD DTH is best. As private DTH hve their licence expirity date (as fishy lifetime mobile scheme. Also private operators as in every field may increase their rates anytime. I only request DD officials to increase the nmbr of TV & radio channels on their platform.

by omprakash on Sep 05, 2006 10:15 PM  Permalink

Your article states that dish tv is available for Rs.3000/- including installation & three months free package. Ground reality is all dealers are demanding Rs. 3000/- plus Rs 400/- for installion & Rs. 400/- for first three months. Some operators are demanding Rs. 4000/- as lumsum. Can you give address of dealers willing to suplly system at price suggested in your write up.

As consumer why we should be such a huge price as Rs. 200 as their is unlimited ads on every and each serial and channels as if we are viewing only ads.
TRAI should tell them either ads with no subs cost. or monthly subcription with nominal rate. otherwise tell closed down there telecast. since we are democratic country.

Does india will ever be a good sporting nation?
by Arun on Sep 05, 2006 10:12 PM  Permalink

Iam from chennai and i could not afford for settop box.Iam very much sure that many chennaites watch many sports.I see in newspaper and other media that goverment is very eager to promote sports and games in india. But to great disappointment , the sports channel -espn,star sports, tensports all are pay channels.Indian government should try to motivate young people into sports and not discourage by making these channels a pay channel..nothing is going to change as along as the government takes serious step to promote sports sincerely.

CAS and DTH
by B Shankar on Sep 05, 2006 10:07 PM  Permalink

As the CAS is provided through the cable TV the disruptions to service will still exist. Is there any remedy to this

There are analog channels and digital channels. Will the reception of both the channels be of digital quality

Sunnetwork is not a part of either CAS or DTH. Exclusively for this one has to depend on cable operators.

Why We Paid For DTH / CAS
by Mangesh on Sep 05, 2006 08:46 PM  Permalink

Why we pyd for any cable service as Cabelwalla and Channels already in profit by showing HUGE advertise on TV.

If you clculate in 30 minutes serial/movie (NEW) we only able to watch Program for 10-14 minutes and rest of time we have to watch ADVERTISEMENTS.

AS per me, we, a counsumer need to pay only if there is no ADVERTISMETNS?
