DTH RATES STILL VERY HIGH
by SHIV KUMAR on Sep 06, 2006 10:51 AM  Permalink

The recent order of TRAI allowing DTH operators to charge Rs. 5/- per channel is too high. I learn that in our neighbouring Pakistan for each channel the consumer has to give only Re. 1/-, then why we pay Rs.5/-, when we have such a big consumer base as compared to Pakistan.

Is TRAI listening?

CAS/DTH

Even though multi TV connectivity is addressed by TATASKY @ Rs.100/additional TV, it is not clear whether those TVs will be able to watch 2 separate channels at the same time!
Connectivity of CAS/DTH to Computers ( with TV Tuner cards ) is another issue!

CAS &DTH
by andy on Sep 06, 2006 10:31 AM  Permalink

Sun TV group has not offered its bouquet of channels to both ZEE and Tata Sky. When I checked with Sun TV Network on phone they said they are offering their channels to either of them and no decision is taken on this subject. sun TV is going to have its own DTH and hence there is conflict of interest in offering their channels to rivals.

THe above article mentions only STAR and Zee and hence I believe this aspect is not well known as these are south indian language channels and therefore not considered to be of as much importance as Hindi language channels.

CAS & DTH
by Rajneesh Anand on Sep 06, 2006 09:32 AM  Permalink

Interesting article about various aspects of different types od TV viewing. Indeed good days for TV viewers are round the corner.

Right now, in most of Indian homes, 2-3 TVs are connected with a single cable. So people in bed room may watch Star Plus, grandparents in lobby may watch Aastha and kids in thier room may watch Cartoon Network. Mostly, the rent is paid only for a single cable connection. But with DTH and CAS, everything will be controlled by a Set Top Box. Which means that only one TV can be connected per connection! Even if you connect two TVs with one STB, both the viewers will have to watch same channel! Some research should be done to take care of this problem, in which multiple users should be able to watch multiple channels.

CAS: Big fraud for payoffs to Dayanidhi Maran Minister for broadcasting
by archigabe on Sep 06, 2006 12:50 AM  Permalink

I am from chennai. This is a scam where we are forced to buy STB's from the Sun TV business group for Rs.5000+.Because of this cost, this is a failure as people dont want to be fleeced into paying a huge company which has monopoly over cable services in chennai. On top of buying the STB for 5000+, the cable charges are more than Rs.250/month.When people outside chennai can watch all the channels for rs.150 why should we pay rs.5000 & 250/month? the sun tv group now controls ministry of broadcasting through Dayanidhi maran who is nephew of karunanidhi,c.m of tamil nadu

hardware compatibility between zee and tatasky DTH
by vipan on Sep 05, 2006 10:52 PM  Permalink

As per the information I got from dealers of both DTH service providers, there is no compatibility between the set top boxes of the two, meaning thereby that if you want to switch service provider you will again have to invest the set top box and dish.
