The choice that women make
by Aruna on Oct 06, 2006 08:04 PM  Permalink

Note the article talks about few women managers and not too few women in the workforce. My theory is that women work their way almost to the top, but they stop short of being in the executive circle. Usually this happens because of women taking care of family that they willingly put in front of their career aspirations. It is a matter of pride that women have the ability to distinguish between a fleeting 15 minutes of fame versus a long term contentment of "being there" for the family.

Women should NOT be managers !
by Simple guy on Oct 06, 2006 02:22 PM  Permalink

Its very simple.

Senior managerial post means 'Higher resonsibility'.
Higher responsibility means 'Extra time in office'.
Extra time in office means 'Tiredness'.
Tiredness means 'Neglected husband and family'.

If family is neglected, what in the world you are working for ??
I believe the woman should be fresh back to home in time to look after the family, rather than getting high-flying career.

Women in india
by Ravi on Oct 06, 2006 01:02 PM  Permalink

Its neither the "cinderlla" complex, nor the glass ceiling, nor the way how a household treats women family members. It would vary on a case-to-case basis. and we dont need to talk about age-old traditions, since they have been there since "ages". The only hope is ofcourse the "Changing Times", which again would obviously not guarantee "change" just because one would like to "think" so.

off-late there have been changes based on way of living and the culture of the "city" that prompted many to open up jobs that would traditionally more befitted women. (for example in the hospitality industry).

Why few women make managers
by Sathya on Oct 06, 2006 12:47 PM  Permalink

men or women does not make a difference, both work is to show that shit is gold. Yes women make it better but at what cost. Most of the companies will pay for all that on a long run, Women are no big than men are they are equal, it is just the fewer talanted women do not represent that the whole woman are great. They are also humans.

Woman managers
by Chaand on Oct 06, 2006 12:06 PM  Permalink

Contrary to your article, I think it's sad that a woman is heading a company that's selling slow poison to children and youth of the world! I am referring to Pepsi.
