I too agree with Rajesh and Rajkiran. With so much hifi critisism of infrastructure and economy by the IT leaders, heave they ever thought all the computer-literate Indians are still using English as a medium in communication.
> That we still donot have an robust operating system in any of our indian languages

> Unless you know english, no matter how intellegent you are you will still be unable to use a computer

> Apart from making secondary and third level software applications has any of these companies or the so called "Techies" ever built primary softwares like a Windows / Linux OS, or DBMS or a programming language or a concept like Java

> With due respect to Mr. Murthy and others, I requestthem to reflect on these rather than always grumble.

Thanks
Ramanan

Narayan Murthy's tips for success
by rajesh on Jun 22, 2006 08:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hi Friends,

I have no doubt about NRN achievements and his vision for his company and the whole nation. But I do differ while praising current generation IT leaders as compared to great businessman/Industrialists like JRD Tata, Birlas Godrejs etc.....

One thing is evident. Current generation leaders crib a lot about the existing system in our country like infractructure , education etc....Do they ever really invest their energy towards the social infrastructure issues like community development, education ? Just compare the businessman like JRD Tata with current generation IT leaders.....JRD Tata never cribbed or worried about the infrastructure in India. Instead he built the whole system on his own by taking lack of infrastructure as a challenge. Look at the manufacturing companies those were built by Tatas in 1950s....without much support from Indian Govt....forget about land at chaper prices and tax holidays....not paying enough corporate taxes etc.....
Tatas even built scientific institutions like IISC/TIFR etc...But we do not see any of such R & D institutes and social developments from compannies like Infy/Satyams and others even when their profit is crossing billions

I fully agree with you rajesh really companies which deserve respect are from manufacturing as any body can make profit when you earn in dollars and spend in rupees (1 = 45). Also all the software companies run only a totaly different domain so process followed by them are not applicable to other areas i myself am a software engineer.
But you see when u have crossed 20billion mark people give u right to speak whatever u want, but seldomly do anything to improve situation. I am sorry if i have hurt any bodies sentiments here.

I agree with you two, that after assimilating such high liquidated funds, companies like INFOSYS should come up with R & D institutions and social developments. I hope that at this very point of time when i am posting this reply, the management is thinking about the same.

Re:Mr.Narayan Murthy - Biggest Asset for India
by vikram on Jun 22, 2006 11:52 AM  Permalink

Mr. Murthy is legend of IT industry with out any doubt. He is a great business man but just becoz of this if u advocate his involvement in Politics then I think this is wrong. He is just true Business man thats it. He buys acers of land at 1/10 th of the market price from the govt and creates a big showing building with swiming pools, playing court with reason that he is creating jobs. No doubt he is creating jobs but asking govt to sell the market at very cheap level is also not correct politically. other MNCs also creating jobs and buys land at market price

Mr. Murthy for President
by Dinesh Jain on Jun 22, 2006 07:51 AM  Permalink

Rediff and Forbes,

Thank you so much for such an excellent interview. I feel so great that I have met this Great son of India, several times in my life.

I urge the folks who had started the campaign in 2002 to have Mr. murthy elected as President of India, I think the chance is coming again. Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam relinquishes in 2007 and then Mr. Murthy could be in ideal candidate. Every one let us work for it.

Excellent article. All praise to Mr Murthy for giving India Infosys and the world a new perspective.

Mr Murthy - Please join politics, understood you cannot do everything for the country, but until governance of the entire country is sane and upto the mark we can only progress so far.
