not at all wast of money
by balaraju on Jul 17, 2006 03:38 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Doing this kind of missions sucessfully in singleshot is not possible. I have confidence on our ISRO. It will do this mission success in near future.
And this money is not at all wasted, we can learn our mistakes from that. This amount loosed is nothing, if we Compare this amount with the amount we are spending on our frequent Elections. lol ;)

:) good point on elections, However the ends of the purpose is important. What will we do with the satellite? do we need more?
If DishTV, SunTV, SkyTv is paying money to ISRO and taking the risk as well as the insurance then it is fine. Else it is a sheer waste.
Better to build cars and bikes, the Tata way of doing things.

bunch of idiots
by pankaj on Jul 17, 2006 03:07 AM  Permalink

I don't understand how they can afford not to understand financials, its very stupid answers that both New India Insurance and ISRO are govt run companies, Givt is stake holder or investor whatever, Company people should do there duty to serve the compnany not if the share holder is common ?. No finance person in India will agree to this, Go heavens new india insurance can be replace be ICICI Lombard or some other international insurer what they have to sya for that, Looks like no finance professional or CA in India's defence companies thats the reason all ar flop shows be it DRDO-Agni, ISRO-Insat then HAL LCA project, Its high time to given them in hands of professionals , CA's and give them bonus as per performance else penalty.

Why India lost Rs 256 crores
by vijay on Jul 16, 2006 04:37 PM  Permalink

With such a headline,I thought some technical insight will be in the article, but I was for a rude shock, as some jugglery of commercial terms related to insurance had filled the article. Further, reading the views of readers, I thought that either I or other readers have not understood article. My take:
1.If 25% is the premium and govt owned company is insurer, it doesn't make any sense to get insurence for ISRO, as it is just a/c adjustment, when launch takes place in India. If launch takes place abroad and govt insurance co. is able to get reinsurance from other insurance company, why not get an insurance.
2.There has to be study of failures, but ISRO needs to given its due for success. Media is to be blamed for only highlighting failures and giving successes a cold shoulder.(with story of sucessful launch, all launches, including failed one,are given in box by media, but with failed misson, only list of failed missons is displayed. Why such discrimination?
3. Rediff should stop giving such sensational headlines to useless stories.
4. As Pvt firms are scouting for Scientists/ engineers not IAS, so salaries of technocrates should be much higher than IAS period any one listening?

How to gain Rs 256 crores in a minute
by George Olivera on Jul 16, 2006 12:08 PM  Permalink

Sir,
Why not the scientists of space research programme learn some basic economics that helps them to insure all future launches in the outer-space. Let them know the developing country like India, cannot afford lose Rs 256 crores in just a minute.

Ask how much India has gained from the space programme.
by Allen D\'Souza on Jul 16, 2006 11:39 AM  Permalink

What we must not forget is the fact that India has had 11 successful launches in a row. That is really remarkable for a space agency that relied more on indigenous technology despite the risk of failure. In the world of sanctions, having even a single nut in your space craft that can't be got from anywhere else other than the sanction-imposer, means a much bigger loss than a launch failure.

We must be very supportive to the ISRO scientists. Had everyone reacted the same way when the inital Aryabhatta failed, ISRO wdn't have had the morale to reach where it is today. India is the only country in the world after the US to provide sub-metre resolution satellite imagery commercially...that shd answer critics with half-baked knowledge of India's space programme.

by pnkjr on Jul 16, 2006 10:40 AM  Permalink

Only a dimwit can write an article like this.
What do you have to say about the failed flights of the US and Russia ?
Be more reasonable and think like a human bieng and not God, who makes no mistakes except producing the likes of the writer.

Hi,
I think its always happen in research field so i say thats peoples of our country shuld not condemen research work done by our scientist because we still not able to giving good facility to our scientist and good satery also thats why some scientist left in india only. Its most embrassing point of our country here only beurocrates and leadders encreases their own salary not interested to encreasing same for scientist.
