How can AAI declare that they can build better airports? What are they doing till now? Till now they were under the impression that nobody can come into their territory and were doing lousy job. AAI still have control on some of the major aiports in the country. I would suggest to AAI to prove their efficiency in maintaining existing infrastructure in a decent manner and then think of developing world class infrastructure.
The Aai employees are doing what all government employees are best at.... strike, prevent modernization, always aspire for a secure job with no responsibility/accountability, total disregard for the convenience of their customer and zero service orientation. We need good airports and these guys who can't even do their jobs right, can't dream of providing us with a world class infrastructure. they need to rest their case cause they don't have any!
The Indian politicians are not confident about their own people whereas Indians are getting construction contract abroad and are ruling the world due to Intelligenstia. This is the sad part. Bringing in outsiders is a risky thing for a country like ours. There can be large scale smuggling and trafficking of unwanted people in and out of the country through these major airports. The politicians will then start crying and shedding tears after some die due to terrorism at airport which will be in the hands of foreigners. The politicial interference has gone beyond control more than the banana republics where there is a referendum to the public opinion before major decisions are taken. Here all the politicians feel that they are the most intelligent but many are fit to be included in the Bernard Shaws wittiest comment 'Politics is the last resort of a scoundrel'. What democracy are we talking of when we neglect our own talents and call outsiders. The ONGC, L&T,many many Indian companies and Sri.Mittal are capturing the world. Money is also not a big issue because the people are not confident which the foreigners have started feeling once 75% reservation is brought for locals too.
then for last 10 years what AAI was doing! give one example of an airport in india which can match Signapor- changi airport!! its very easy to say.............but can u do really!! even not able to get going Bangalore New airport!
Why not?Let the Govt select any one other Airport, put it under the management of a select team of 'proven' competent Executives/Managers, give them a free hand/Finance & non-interference from politicians, bureaucrats,trade unions & others with shady designs & see how they fare by International standards. If they prove thir worth then repeat the model without inviting private participation. However, why is privatisation a 'dirty' word? Just look at the state of our airlines, Railways, State run roadways, & ships.Try for the next three years to reform/improve alround & show results.
Finally, ohh finally the AAI has woken up from its long slumber, and realised that they too can build Modern or Ultra Modern Airports just like the Private Parties. Well, if they can build, what in the world were they doing for so long ? The only guess is they were sleeping !!! And so I think now they have woken up. The Left Parties have actually no work. The only thing they know is Oppose anything and everything and go on strikes at the expense of tens of thousands of Indians. I think the only thing that needs to be done is rid India of the Left Parties, and this Striking business can be stopped. I think, this is a very good move by the Indian Govt. to Privatise the Modernisation of airports. And if AAI thinks they can do a better job, let them modernise Chennai and Kolkata. But why the Strike ???
