I very much doubt the claims that AAI can modernise or build better world class airport. Despite being in the driver's seat for so many years, all the airports (including our national capital) are in a big mess and the officials / workers foul-mouthed.
AAI has had plenty of time to make their move but they haven't. I guess it's not possible anyway, when plenty of staff are undeserving and get through the back door or reservation quotas!
It's time that these airports are made world-class, especially in the face of our growing economy and foreigners visiting India more frequently. Kudos to the PM for having taken this bold step to privatise these two airports.
By the way, I think the staff are protesting as they will have to work for the money they are paid for rather than just loitering around. As far as the Cochin Airport example is concerned, what has been done for the other 100 odd airports in India, including the bigger ones, by the AAI.
We all know what crappy airports Bombay and Delhi are....Were they all sleeping till now...He wants govt. to build airports.? He is comparing with Hongkong and Singapore...? Hasnt he seen in last 58 years Indian govt. performance ?He is talking about MTNL being giant organization? Who is he kidding....My old parents were waiting for 7 months for a internet connection from MTNL and they still didnt get it....I think there should be a seperate court for unions and there stupid demands. And they should be punished whenever they make such stupid strikes and put common man hostage....They should be all fired...Under the name of democracy they take advantage...... these things should stop....
I always fail to understand why does government" employees conscience suddenly is pricked when we talk about development and modernization with Public Private Partnerships (PPP) or to an extent Privatization We have been traditionally seeing the inefficiency of AAI authorities in the maintenance of the "International" airports and I think they have to reflect the country's image and we always project a very bad picture, at the first instance in the toilets or washrooms... where we can never find an iota of "clean" image. We should understand that when central "Government" proposes something, then there is a lot of debate that goes in and a decision is taken in the "welfare" of nation as a whole (although this might not be true all times... but lets assume) and the consequence is better facilities and amenities to public. Now, the logic of "cost plus Tariff" might increase the prices... is definitely true... but do you think that we still have to subsidize people who are traveling by air to counteract their "time value" of money? Would one think paying say Rs. 100 extra when he/she is paying something like Rs. 10,000 as the minimum for the commodity... of course NOT!
Good atleast something good coming up. May be AAI can build great airport, but its too late for them to begin. Its quite good if the major responsibilities like security are still under government. So semi-central would be a better idea than complete privitisation.
Everything that sounds logical in speech may not be implementable.Mr.Pande views look logical with his examples of cochin airport,MTNL etc but people are not interested in government sectors because of their lethargy, corruption and what not.But Govt should also understand the insecurity in the minds of AAI workers(ultimately every person has right to live) and give assurance to their jobs with strict measures against inactivity.
Its better to privatize all the airports for better service and good maintenance. Also the passengers could be away from spending extra money for the people who are handling the luggage inside the airport. I never seen any of Indian airport toilets are neat and clean and meeting the international standards. There could be hardly any difference between strike and non strike of the employees as far as service is concerned except for air traffic control. Why employees of government organization is staging agitation whenever the matter of privatization is on. Government has already told the employees that no one could be removed from their employment even after privatization. The employees could have frightened that once it is privatized they may need to work and they cant leisure their time as they did so far.
As Indians what we want? The current generation of India wants to walk ahead.Theese kind of protests shows that we are Idiots enough to listen to theese Idiots. One must tell them to Please Wake Up, you are in a Nation who is trying to develop, Please do not create problems in development.About the development of airports by them:- are they serious??
Hi, Read the headline "AAI can build great airports" and laughed out loud. Free TIP: Please enter the interview to "Joke of the Year Contest" .... high probability of winnning.
I'm afraid that Privatisation of Delhi and Mumbai Airports will reduce the total count as many unwanted employees will be filtered out which is good in fact. Moreover, employees then have to perform unlike where GOVT. OFFICIALS dont give a damn while at work. Exchange of monetary funds will not tak place under the table instead that will be reduced to a greater extent. Perhaps, the employees of AAI are currentl facing this threat.
