It is just 'grass is greener on the other side'
by MSR on Dec 28, 2006 03:59 PM  Permalink

CAS through cable is still a night mare and u can ask the experience from the Chennai crowd who already have the STB through the cable operators.

DTH service levels are pathetic and the company like Dish TV have no clue about post sale service...and in a industry where service is the key!

A long way to go!

CAS(ON)FUSING
by csmart on Dec 28, 2006 03:32 PM  Permalink

i read many articles on CAS and DTH. each article said about current scenario and pricing. the pricing given in this article is also about basic information that is easily available. Further Dish TV brochure says Taxes extra. What are the taxes? At one point in the brochure it says License and Service Tax while other it says License fees included. Very confusing. I tried to call their customer care, nbut no reply. no. is given in brochure and also on their site. If this is the case what will happen after purchase?
what will happen after promotional period especially with Tat Sky and Dish TV?

I was expecting clear comparison between various service providers that would have helped me choose correct option. Even in STB, 77 + 45 taxes. what about taxes on other pay channels? how tax will be calculated then? No information.

Set-top Box
by Concern Consumer on Dec 28, 2006 03:04 PM  Permalink

We do not want to land from boiling water into a frying pan. Set-top box is a recurring expense and an investment for a consumer whilst a Money making device for the service provider.
Is the Government or the Judiciary which has passed the order ensuring that the consumers are provided universal set-top boxes which can be used regardless of the service provider? This way, if we are not happy with a particular service provider, we can still use it when we change over to a better service provider instead of our hard earned money going down the drain.
Judiciary should assist the consumer by telling the service provider that either they give the set-top box for free when we enroll with them or provide universal set-top box which the consumer is willing to pay.
We think it is fair to all concern. We are confident that the Judiciary will consider our suggestion.

by an observer on Dec 28, 2006 02:49 PM  Permalink

good article but gives inadequate information. for starters, there is no information, which channels will be available on what dish? means for e.g. zee, sony, star, discovery, bbc, cnn, etc.. are available? on what? how? what charges? and summarily how the price structure will become if by taking example of selecting free to air channels with some paid channels.. monthly payment? one time payment etc. please clarify this in detailed manner.
