hi vinayak
i too live in karnataka
i am vivek
looking for a telescope i believe

so for 3000 u will not get a good telescope

i understand that u have budget problems but please do not get tricked into buying a cheap telescope from some toy shop ( bangalore has many such shops )

i shall tell u some thing
if ur looking for a telescope to view objects on land then u might as well go in for a binoculars

but if u want to do astronomical viewing then u must first tell me what u actuall want to do

i can provide u with tons of info about choosing a good scope for a good price but u must get specific
do u want to do deep sky gazing. planetaary gazing, lunar gazing , solar gazing , astrophotography so u see this firstly classify's ur selection

u can post a question at rediff answers if u want me to tell u more

or if u preffer reading a book about how to buy a telescope i have one i bought it in bangalore
so post ur questions at rediff answers and i can guide u there
