Interesting article expressed in a confused manner.
by Peter De Souza on Aug 26, 2006 01:20 PM  Permalink

This article shows that prices of commodities and services depend on demand or supply. This could be an innovative way to make money for airline seat traders. The author should have expressed this with more clarity and simplicity.

The author is confused trying to confuse the people and the airlines. He is a business man for sure but got all the strings of his idea entangled him in his super extra creativity.

by labrea on Aug 22, 2006 11:34 PM  Permalink

There you go again - I still fail to see the connection between the 'Lalu's tips' and 'budget airlines' - maybe I missed something, but what Lalu's tips? I think you folks are trying too hard come up with clever headlines.

Great idea but needs a very complex
by prahlad on Aug 22, 2006 09:36 PM  Permalink

Great idea but needs a very complex CRM to handle it and only net savy consumers can avail of such facilities. Since net penitration especially for buying and selling tickets is not vary popular in india so it might not be popular at this moment. Still good idea to wait for.

What tips?
by Xavier on Aug 22, 2006 03:25 PM  Permalink

The author looks confused about what he has written and even left me in a confused mood. The suggestions are logical from the business point of view but everyone of them leaves a lot of loopholes for people trying to make money on early birds. The tatkal option is the best if used for sectors where there is always demand for tickets at the last moment. the airlines should identify the heavily used sectors and keep a quota of 10-20 seats to be booked 3 days before the flight either in an auction or a direct first come first take basis.

Another flaw
by Another Indian on Aug 22, 2006 03:22 PM  Permalink

If the passenger is ready to postpone the travel by one day then the airlines need to allocate a seat for that passenger in next days flight. And do you think cost of the next day ticket is cheaper by any chance? I am not sure how you will tackle this issue.

where did lalu come in this?
by cosmic voices on Aug 22, 2006 03:20 PM  Permalink

There is no mention of lalu in the whole article and Tatkal system was not devised by him. Another case of misleading headlines from rediff.

Tips for Air lines
by A C Sawhney on Aug 22, 2006 03:09 PM  Permalink

I find the situtaion other way round. On many flights & on many sectors I find lots of seats vacant. The last minute buyer has to pay more & so he avoids going by air. Some ways & means to be found out to sold last minute vacant seats at chaepest rates so that air lines can generate some additional revenues. This can be done by posting on internet the vacant no of seats & with minimum bid or offering the existing passengers additional tickets at low price so that they can take their spouse, children or friends with them.
Upgrading to higher class for vacnat seats in exe class & offering economy class for sale is another option.
Ways & means to be found out to bokk the flight full always.

Tips for Gambling
by srinivas on Aug 22, 2006 02:40 PM  Permalink

My my... this article seems to suggest new ways of gambling to the people. These inducements though creative will certainly drag people towards misdeeds. Already there are several complications involved for people to decipher, added to it now people have to compulsorily travel even if they dont want to. There is already a premium charged on tickets booked at the last minute, so why not leave it at that. Efficient allotment to the needy happens as long as there are vacancies.
