Of Course it is Justified
by jyoti on Aug 15, 2006 11:34 AM  Permalink

It is an open secret of how damaging these carbonated drinks are for human beings. And these are the ones who have started the Obesity epedemic in the western countries. So stop behaving like a money sucker corporate giant and give lame excuses and arguments in favour of these products and companies. At the end of the day just like there is a legal ban on drugs the same should be applied for these slow poisons!

ban on pepsi
by Swamimuthu Kannan on Aug 15, 2006 10:14 AM  Permalink

Psycopancy and foreign mania lead to such an extent to ignore the health of the fellow brothers and sisters in preference to the foreign money. We have only to pray God to produce another Gandhi to save this country from the US and Americanised Indians.

Justified.
by Mohan on Aug 15, 2006 08:32 AM  Permalink

The ban on them is completely justified . The author's haughtiness comes to the forefront when he quotes politicians to justify his stance .

We Indians are not against any cola company . We do not want to buy poison . This happening again after the fiasco few years back brings to forefront the calumnous attitude of these companies ,which just want to milk money from the Indian Customers .

Can they get on with this in the United states ? Will the author fight with the FDA quoting Bush . No he will not . I pay the money to buy a safe cola . We know how much profits these companies churn . A fraction of that should go to setting up modern plants to ensure that we get a clean drink .

The author can meanwhile buy his Kids tons of cola .

Different standards
by Arati on Aug 15, 2006 07:34 AM  Permalink

We have different standards for ourselves (India) and others (USA). I
know that the American Disability Act is not followed even in US
consulate in Calcutta for people with disabilities.
Similarly, the standards for pesticides and insecticides, are not followed
as per international norms by MNCs because we as Indians do not value
ourrsleves. Shame on us!!!

Is the ban on Coke justified? Heck no!
by labrea on Aug 15, 2006 06:35 AM  Permalink

Everyhting in India is polluted with pesticides from overusage by stupid, ignorant farmers. The Communists, as always are a disingeuous and hypocritical lot - crowing about employment generation and economic development, yet have going to great lengths to stymie every effort at economic and labor reforms, hobbling and emasculating the economy while pauperizing the nation - the Communists notion of economic progress. Somehow it's OK for the Politburo and well-placed apparachiks to steal public funds, treat govt-owned PSEs like their own piggy-banks, running them into the mud while wasting thousands of crores of limited taxpayers monies subsidizing these losers - money which could be better spent on schools, health centers, electricity, water etc. As always the MNCs are the bogeymen, and consuming their products highly unptriotic, while consuming swadeshi products is patriotic. The Karats of this land must be proud of their handiwork. To date, Communists everywhere have created nothing but hardships and oppressiveness. Banning Coke is just another instance of this.

Isnt the ban on coke and pepsi Justified
by nitin paradkar on Aug 15, 2006 02:54 AM  Permalink

On April 26, 2001 US forced dumping duty and countervailing duty (CVD) to be paid for importing Indian steel into the US. This was a move to protect the US steel industry which, at the moment, was unable to compete with more efficient steel producers elsewhere in the world.

Does the US ministry of commerce, who are also entitled to same WTO agreements, see nothing wrong in that event?

Kerela and other states in India are not the only places where coke and pepsi are banned.New York University (NYU), the largest private university in the US with over 50,000 students, was the 12th university in the US, and at least the 20th worldwide, to have taken strong action against coke.

Isnt banning of Coke and pepsi sends the clear message to global companies, you are welcome here as long as you maintained the same global standards. You cant treat us as if we are third graded country.

The out cry is made it will affect other compnies which are thinking to setup plant in India.India and China are the worlds largest market. Firms make more profit when they have bigger market, that is simple commerce.Even a child can say they Need us more than we need them.

Not Coke but Left should be thrown out
by Praveen B on Aug 15, 2006 02:36 AM  Permalink

It is a highly disgusting move on part of a useless govt. The water which the govt supplies may be having 1000 times the pesticide content.

This is just a public vote gathering gimmick.
