soft drinks, hard truth
by Gautham Kulamarva on Aug 10, 2006 11:04 PM  Permalink

I understand the fact that soft drinks containing pesticides are not good for health. If it has been found, it has to be rectified, no doubt.

But I feel, before the government could point a finger at the cola companies, has it made sure that - the pesticide content in the NORMAL DRINKIG WATER in the same regions as the cola testings - less than what was found in the soft drinks?

I think Govt. has to clean up its own house first, like in the case of River Ganga and the rest of the countries drinking water problems, before it starts pointing fingers at others.

Gautham.

Cola ads to be banned
by Dr. Prakash C. Malshe on Aug 10, 2006 10:29 PM  Permalink

Cola drinks do not have any vitamins, electrolytes and amino acids. Only thing useful for the body they have is cane sugar; which only adds to calorie intake. Cola drinks replace fruit juices and the traditional Indian lassi, things which were definitely more healthful. moreover, in this way the sale of fruit suffers- a situation detrimental to the farmers of the country. There is no virtue in the cola drinks and no taste, today's youth is attracted to cola drinks only because of the advertisements. These must be banned.

pesticides in softdrinks
by K A Radhakrishnan on Aug 10, 2006 10:16 PM  Permalink

Regret to note that even after all the evidences of pesticides content in softdrinks our honourable minister has to confirm the findings with his counterparts in the west the facts.I dont think there can be anything more shameful than this.Even After evidences coming continuously Mr Ramdoss is doubtful.Secondly the minister is thinking whether or not its possible to ban the advertisements but his ministry has still not thought of any actions forget about banning.

Its a disgrace that he still continuous to be a Minister.

Once again it proves that Money power is everything.

bunch of idiots
by saket on Aug 10, 2006 09:44 PM  Permalink

All i can say is the indian govt. is run by bunch of idiots who wld forever try to hide behind false issues rather then going after the real thing. The issue ove here should be the amount of pestisides in the water being used by these cola companies not in the cola itself. The govet mite ban the cokes and pepsis but what abt the water itself. Are they gonna stop us from drinking that too,as they cant get that clean. And another thing, these cola manufacturing units are one of the richest plants in india, the content of pestisides wld be the least in the water being used by them compared to other food manufacturing units. Is the govt ready to ban them..or them being indian companies gives them the right to poison the food...i cant say anything else..and i am preety sure a few ppl wld be ready to bash my comments as they are more intelligent and patriotic then I am..so its all good...but do think abt what i said..

Pesticides content
by basu on Aug 10, 2006 09:37 PM  Permalink

Definitely pesticides content is an area of concern when the permissible limits are exceeded. However, the NGOs and the Government should also ascertain the pesticide content levels in other drinks available in the market including packed juices and milk other than targeting only products manufactured by the two US MNCs.

The holier than thou Indian politicians
by Sreenivasan Raju Aiyer on Aug 10, 2006 09:22 PM  Permalink

Although it is nearly six decades since Indian attained freedom it has still not provided its citizens with clean drinking water. It provides contaminated water for drinking water. The Kendriya Bandaar(Central Government's super market)sells grains and pulses tasting of fertilizers. The vegetables sold in the government's Mother Dairy also tastes of chemicals. The entire country is being polluted by motor vehicles throwing out black smoke.A former prime minister who owns many petrol pumps in the city of Bangalore sells adulterated petrol and diesel. The proof lies in your simply walking round the city when your eyes burn for no apparent reason. This Susheela Narain is a communist whose one point programme is to denigrate the US and everything representing it.If she is really concerned about the wellbeing of our people then she should take up the ones that I have mentioned. Atleast in the case of colas the amount of impurities is so much negligible that it does not pose that big a problem as the ones posed by grains, pulses, milk and vegetables tasting of chemicals and fertilizers. This woman personifies the corrupt Indian politicians who are anti-Hindu and anti-US.
