Guys amd gals, It may be true that even water, milk, fruits and vegetables have high level of pesticides. But the cola companies can afford technologies which can clean pesticide contaminated water and then use them, but can the farmers afford the technology, when half the farmers in india find it difficult to eat three times a day. And we can survive if we dont drink pepsi and coke, but can we survive if the government bans milk and vegetables??? THIS is the first time the govt is doing something positive. And it is our children who will benefit the most from this ban,so why are we bothered about this ban just because it doent look good or sound good. As for investments, nothing will be affected as india is a huge market and other foreign companies need india as much as India needs them. And this ban will only show that india is a tough country and other comapnies will think twice before flouting rules. SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING.
If the kerala govt. wants to ban Colas because they found it contains harmful substances, then they better stop selling liquour through the state owned beverages corporation in the first place.
Every bottle says consumption of liquour is injurious to health.Money rings in the govt. coffers as far as liquour is concerned! Now is that really fair!
It is really an unfortunate decision to ban the production and distribution of colas that provide a lot of job opportunities to our people. If the real concern is the health of the people, government should come forward to ban or regulate more hazardous food materials and beverages that doesn't come under the ban. Only by drinking colas nobody will get any serious terminal disease. People in western contries use a lot of colas as a part of their daily food. It is widely known that the ingredients used for the production of colas doesn't contain any pesticides. On the other hand, the water used for the preparation of colas extracted with the permission of the same goverment which is taking sword against the colas is polluting the cola. Let the government claiming to be the saviour of industries make sure that the cola plants get safe drinking water. So also, let the government machinery ensuring the quality of food products function a little more effectively. Thereby, we can protect our industries, job opportunies, tourism, image and economy.
Dear sir; Govt of India Must Totally Ban All Water Related Soft Driks and Beverages, Since We are indian Fools Wasting Our Money By purchasing Poisonus Drinks, And Spoiling our Health , And The Multinatinal Companies Taking our Money To their Countries.
That Even We Sold our Indian Water Also to others. Shame.
It is really unfortunate for Govt to ban sale of soft drinks. Before getting carried away by the pesticide hysteria one should first question the validity of the survey itself. The major question is what kind of drinks in India does not contain pesticide or follow the European norms. The major source of all drinks, water itself is highly polluted in India. Billions of people drink water which is exponentially higher harmful than the soft drinks. I believe the natural fruits are also not free from the pesticides. Shall we ban everything that contains pesticide? We have to stop drinking water, eating food. The logic is highly hilarious. Whenever the political parties need fund for their election campaign they start doing things like this using their resources (CSE in this case). They are not only making fools of the public but also are threatening the economic growth by blackmailing the major industries. We must understand that we have to stop this filthy game and condemn the Govt for its action.
Only awareness helps ... these measures never helps. see what happened to liquor ban in Andhra or Gujarat ... Smoking is banned in public place ... govt. offices in Maharastra... but implementation is very poor ... how is govt planning to implement this new law .... Shallow policies will only bring bad name to them ... nothing else ... when our politicians will use their heads ....
Dear Sir, It is shocking to know the high levels of pesticides in these packaged drinks,
But my question whether these pesticides are added by the Cola Companies or are they existing already in the ground water of the country.
It is justified to ban the Cola majors if the former is correct. However, it is not a bright idea if latter is the case. Then the govt will have to ban all sorts of drinks including mineral water
Distilled water will then be our only choice.
We need to find the root of the problem. regards Hari.

those who advocate the theory that pesticides are not added by Cola companies and is found in ground water they use, should know the following.
1. There are technologies available that can get rid of all pesticides from ground water. 2. The pesticides in ground water is present in other countries also, still Cola companies in those countries make sure to reach safe level of pesticides in their products. 3. The cola companies need to adhere to the law of land.
the only reason Cola companies in India deliver their product with pesticides is because law is lax. Milk, water and vegetables have pesticides so Cola companies don't care about the high pesticide content in their products also.
I sincerely believe that Govt of India with help of State Govts should have a fool-proof system in place whereby all consumables are checked stringently at frequent intervals and locations - so as to deter any form of manhandling of quality of any human consumables. This is a serious issue, more than smuggling/black marketing ! The actions of stringent QA/QC checks would keep all people connected with the product on the tenter hooks till they sell the product....let us look at the overall picture and let our Men-in-power bring some tangible measures for the health of our society....
