The government is trying to avoid accepting the fact that the policy they followed so far has failed. Now they want to make one more mistake by subjecting the private sector employment for quota.
This will bring down the competetiveness of private sector. And there they will fail again.
The best thing that government can do for SC/ST/OBC's to provide free and compulsory education with some stipend to support education related needs.
Govt. can also arrange for special training for those needy.
Brain is not only upper class people have, everybody has it. one needs to explore to maximum possible extent, which everybody will agree. I feel by requesting reservation, the SC/ST/OBC brothers are doing injustice to themselves.
I am sure most of us will be thinking twice to get medical treatment from a doctor, if he has come thro' special quota(or from private college). This will further aggravate the situation if government persists with it's proposal.
How long will government continue with quota policy?
When it was initally proposed to have reservation, the then government put secific deadline till the congress government again extended. STOP RESERVATION!

Why We Need Reservation?
by Apoorv Kodera on Apr 27, 2006 10:01 AM  Permalink

I think we should have job reservations in all the fields. I completely support the PM and all the politicians for promoting this. Let's start the reservation with our cricket team. We should have 10 percent reservation for muslims. 30 percent for OBC, SC/ST like that. Cricket rules should be modified accordingly. The boundary circle should be reduced for an SC/ST player. The four hit by an OBC player should be considered as a six and a six hit by a OBC player should be counted as 8 runs. An OBC player scoring 60 runs should be declared as a century.

We should influence ICC and make rules so that the pace bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar should not bowl fast balls to our OBC player. Bowlers should bowl maximum speed of 80 kilometer per hour to an OBC player. Any delivery above this speed should be made illegal.

Also we should have reservation in Olympics. In the 100 meters race, an OBC player should be given a gold medal if he runs 80 meters.

There can be reservation in Government jobs also. Let's recruit SC/ST and OBC pilots for aircrafts which are carrying the ministers and
politicians (that can really help the country.. )

quotas : cure or disease
by priya r on Apr 27, 2006 07:30 AM  Permalink

Your aims and aspirations are perfect, egalitarianism is exactly what we need, but the fact of the matter is that we are miles and miles away from it yet. Do you really consider the beggars on the streets as your equal let alone brother or sister? And if you bother to find out you might easily find that most belong to the so called "backward communities." Asking for great statesmen to fix the problem is all very well, but for individuals to recognize existing inequalities is the first step towards egalitarianism.

Reservations in Jobs and Educational Institutions
by Asheesh on Apr 27, 2006 07:18 AM  Permalink

We are all fighting a loosing battle because we all know why the political parties are hell bent on reservations. Unless we change the approach and strategise better, we are going to let the crooks rule India.
I ask the media- why cant they call the head of all important parties and reason with them the effects of this. We all know that they will try to convince by shouting, growling or whatever it takes, to some how justify there decisions. But, let the public know how hollow they are with their arguments. And please, for God sake, let only experts be allowed to 'argue' with these politicians. The biggest shame is to be defeated on an argument IN PUBLIC. Only 'important' personalities from each major party - ..yes, even the PM. And if a leader does not have time to discuss this, this needs to communicated, because that leader then just doesnt care about lives of millions.
And then take legal opinion- right to equality is FUNDAMENTAL right. Doesnt this hamper that right? And can changing a law deprive me of my Fundamental rights. If yes, change the 1st page of our Constitution.
All in vain, I know...this is OUR DEMOCRACY..shamefully

The writer deserves all praise for the facts mentioned. More and more people should come forward and express their views in a free and frank manner. Kapil Sibbal has really expressed his mind frankly and deserves appreciation.

Why don't we do something..
by Karun on Apr 27, 2006 05:20 AM  Permalink

Why don't all of us have a petition or sign up campaign and send that to the Prime Minister and the President. Why don't students in colleges and universities nationwide debate on the issue and write to their respective representatives in government. Many of us have ideas and desire, and are even willing to support anybody who can take a stance and leadership on this issue; but I guess we are lacking leaders. Anybody willing to lead the fight??

Reservation
by Vaibhav Garg on Apr 27, 2006 04:59 AM  Permalink

The article very aptly describes the way this reservation policy is hell bound on again dividing the society. Such a useless and potentially threatening policy should be thoroughly reviewed... not by politicians but by some eminent law makers.
Otherwise the county's progress is in danger.

Absolutely Correct
by Chandra Shekhar Ojha on Apr 27, 2006 02:59 AM  Permalink

Reading this article is like speaking my inner sense. I am not against reservation but for the right people not for the people who are well off and taking un due advantage. In fact in some sector like health, medicine etc you should not have reservation as these are risk to people's health what good a person would do if he is not intelligent and good enough to carry out his/her duties. We should give them enough resources to prove them self rather then making them feel that scoring low still can make their life happy and easy...
Hope this happens in this INDIA...I am pretty sure not untill I am alive and I have plans to live for another 60-70 years...
