Well Said !
by Janani on Apr 26, 2006 06:47 PM  Permalink

Well Said that in India ppl wanna be "backward" than moving "forward". Reservations based on economic status than social status would be the just thing to do.
Right from College, to promotions in public jobs this is a pain to belonging to Forward classes. It drains our confidence. We have to slog it out in our exams and aim for nothing less than a 98.99% while our "friends" could easily breeze through with 50 and 60%. It SUCKS !

Quota is a necessity for millions
by avinash vishwakarma on Apr 26, 2006 06:40 PM  Permalink

The history of india is full of examples of bigotry faced by millions of low caste hindus and lack of proper facilities for tribals for thousands of years. They clean excreta from dry latrines ,work as bonded labour (landless farmers in villages ,domestic help or child labour in industry) or sex toys for the rich .This has led to disparity in our social setup and associated evils ( hunger , exploitation , suicides , naxalism) . Only through corrective measures taken by the government this can be rectified. Some that the government can take are: 1. providing good employment oppurtunities for the needy,2.ending exploitation and hostility ,3. empowering them through education and vocational training. But these things are easier said than done ina vast country like India. Quota is a step forward as few of them get the oppurtunity to prosper.

Is there any political party which opposes reservation based on caste?
by chetan on Apr 26, 2006 06:20 PM  Permalink

Is there any political party which opposes reservation based on caste?

As for my knowledge there is none....
(let me know if there is any)

Why there is not even a single political party which opposes reservation based on caste. I think is there is any then sure it will come to power as they stand out of the crowd, & obiviously they get larger percentage of votes than that of others who are thriving on a same issue for the last 40 odd years.

Quota systems
by Adrian Fox on Apr 26, 2006 06:08 PM  Permalink

It is sad that in a world were we keep talking and educating our childern about equality, the fact is far from real. We have forgotten the sacrifices made by many youth of our country on the implementation of this same quota system a few years ago, which a few politician wished to implement for their own vested interest.

God bless India.

reservation is not required, but financial support can needed
by Sleeva on Apr 26, 2006 05:59 PM  Permalink

I hate this reservation system. I suggest that, rather than giving reservation quota, they can give financial help for their education.
