reservations
by Panat on Apr 11, 2006 11:04 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

At the time of independence people must have decided to forget the past and join hands to built an unified society of a single national identity called "Indian".To normalise the disturbed Balance pans the time bound program of caste based reservations was wisely and unanimasely accepted by the honourable intelectuals at that time. This should have beeen surely aiming to curb the historical missuse of the so called MANUWADI thought process and to give helping hand to the needy and deprived segements of the society of the nation. But the intention of so called Manuwadi thought process which I understand was that "give opportunities to the special section of the society to grow irrespective of there quality the extent to which they deserve".This ultimately has resulted in the denial of opportunities to the deserving candidates of that era.But is the current mentality of increasing the reservations to the special sections of the society, not denying the opportunities to the needy and elligible brains of the special sections of the society. Is this the other face of Manuwadita comming up to missuse constitution of India with an hidden agenda of revenge taking attitude.

Prejudice masquereding as arguement.
by sailen on Apr 11, 2006 10:50 AM  Permalink

Everytime i hear the word "merit" these days i feel like puking! In all the arguements people seem to be making while opposing reservations one tacit agreement seems to be that "merit" will somewhat get compromised. Pray! What is merit? Ans- It is something that uppercste Hindus have that helps them to get into IITs and IIMs and then leave India for greener and hopefully colder pastures like the American West coast or the American mid-east.

Apparently ensuring adequate representation to the various caste groups in india will compromise on "merit". Apparently apart from the Brahmins and a few other uppercastes in India no else has any merit. It's time this arguement is exposed for the racist cant that it is. The opposition to reservation has nothing to do with merit. There are 14 crore dalits in india, 8 crore tribals and more than a third of a billion OBCs. If our public school system is so bad that it cannot find a few thousand students with "merit" from half a billion population under the reserved category then the whole system needs to be dismantled and rebuilt from scratch. But that can only happen when we have our priorities right.

Reservation
by Diana on Apr 11, 2006 10:46 AM  Permalink

As young Indians lets Ban the Words Caste if we want to develop and live like a family.

British divided us on the Basic of Hindu and Muslims and our Politicians are all set to divide us on the basic of Cast. We Indians have to wake up before it gets worst let us all get together and fight this.

irrelevant reasons
by Gautam Shirsekar on Apr 11, 2006 10:44 AM  Permalink

Dear Mr. Kelkar,

It is very easy to point the finger on theory of possible degradation that would creep in those institutions after reservation, but this theory is rather hypothesis. To substantiate it, you need proof. Here we are talking about OBCs reservations, and nobody is willing to peep into the present strength of OBC students in these institutes who have fought their way from stiff competition from more privileged candidates of open category. So it will be quite interesting to see the data. These data along with socio-economic indices can certainly reveal some astonishing facts. I personally observed that wherever the reservation for OBCs exist it is as breakneck competition for those candidates as any other from open category. A huge 55 per cent population is said to be OBC, which vies for some 20 percent reserved seats. Dont think that OBC standards in education are too much lagging behind Open category standards, in fact in some educational domains like Agriculture, it is very difficult to get admission from OBC reservation quota than the open quota.

Since the deterioration of quality is proving to be a useful weapon for the anti-reservationists we need to loo
