Reservation system is not goo anymore for the country
by Srinivas Reddy, Pallerla on Apr 12, 2006 09:23 PM  Permalink

Reservation sytem presently in india is benefiting on rich people of BCs,
ST and SCs. Further increasing the quota will lead brain drain of bright
students to western coountries. Increasing reservation can never bring
chenges in the life of the poor people. These days getting SC, ST and
BCs certificates is not a big thing. The quality of education will fall
further. Reservation system should be given based on the familys
income, family property and other things should be considered to
evaluate further. Their are many people who are very rich in BCs,ST and
ST.

Right To Equality!!!
by TheGame on Apr 12, 2006 08:30 PM  Permalink

One of these days i am gonna study the constitution of india and find out how they are in congruence with reservation. The way i look at it right now ... may be naive ... but isn't the sitution like its in direct conflict with the fundamental rights provided to every citizen of india ... the right to equality of oppourtunity, at the first place. Its like you are doomed if you belong to the general class and priveledged if you are one of those SC/ST/OBC's. History surely repeat! This is just like caste sytem turned upside down! God Help Us!

Hey Ram !!
by Krishnan Natarajan on Apr 12, 2006 04:38 PM  Permalink

Forget it Ram, if the politicians could understand the meaning of the phrase "affirmative action" India would be a far better place to live today.

Anyways, what's the big deal on IITs and IIMs that they must be excluded from reservations? If seats are reserved in all colleges across India then are IITs and IIMs outside the country?

Technically the government is correcting it's mistake (or fixing a bug in IT parlance) by including the IITs and the IIMs in the global net.

Credit must not be taken away from citizens like me who vote for such politicians. I am impressed on what kind of mess these politicians can create.

I also wonder why Pradhan Mantriji and Rashtrapatiji are mute spectators to such ruthless, archaic policies. Sometimes I wonder what leadership any of our great luminaries demonstrate in the face of controversy.

Who need reservation ?
by DB on Apr 12, 2006 03:49 PM  Permalink

When I was studying in my BE. I had son of commissioner and PAC commandant as my classmate. They were both from SC/ST.

One of them has not appeared in one of the engineering entrance paper, out of four, and got zero in the other. And he got the same seat for which I worked for two complete year. I can remember he used to say he will appear in IAS and will get selection for sure as there is only few people of his rare ST caste will apply for it.

These people were already affluent enough. Do they need reservation?

Son of these politicians either goes foreign for studies or take minimal qualified education for being a politician, so they are not anyway bother where our education system goes. They can not feel the heat in the matter. Let the sons and daughters face the entrance exam, then they will feel our pain.

Thanks
Deepak

Reservations in IIT & IIM's
by Ninad B Paranjape on Apr 12, 2006 07:27 AM  Permalink

Dear Sir,
It is very unfortunate that after 58 years of independence the government is planning to double the reservations.this is purely vote bank politics & they are playing with our future. The reservation system on basis of cast should be demolished( I know this will not happen)because quota system is responsible for caste based politics. It is distracting us from our preparation for JEE.

Thoughtful article
by Netra on Apr 11, 2006 04:12 PM  Permalink

Excellet article... its a very good thought to keep reservations at primary and secondary level which can uplift the knowledge levels of the so called backward class and giving reservation at college level doesn't make any sense. Our politicians wouldn't mind taking advantage of all caste, religion for the votes, how sad there is nothing we can do but just give our openion on all these issues.
