reservation
by soumi on Apr 13, 2006 09:19 PM  Permalink

I feel reservation is a sin for general people.Only by reservation what is the guarantee that they will suceed in life,If a person is capable whether he/she is forward class or backward class should be given oppurtunity, not by limiting their seatsand creating chaos, even if a person is that capable whether of forward or backward he/she will succeed in life without reservation also.

re: remove reservations and save India
by lakshmi bitragunta on Apr 13, 2006 07:24 PM  Permalink

It's sad that even in the 21st century, when other countries are just over growing,India is taking decisions like further extending reservations, and is digging its own developement. The picture is clear, any country will prosper, when merit rules, not the caste, and its reservations.Who wants to take the service of a doctor, a pilot, or an engineer, who did not qualify for the test itself. We want India to be an ideal place for the deserving merit people.Already enough of brain drain happened in this country, due to lack of proper opportunities. The government and the politicians should eradicate the basic problems of the backward people at the ground level by providing them education and financial aid,but no good will come from solving the problem, superficially,ie.,by mere reservations, their intelligence will not grow. That too already one generation enjoyed the benefits of reservations. So many people among them are already rich.So why should again their children get reservations? Instead they could help a financially backward upper class guys.Even there should be a minimum educational qualification to qualify as a politician , in that case , they will not come out with such ignorant

reservation in IITs and IIMs
by ravi on Apr 13, 2006 02:32 PM  Permalink

The Reservation in IIT , IIMs and other elite professional institute is not going to improve the status of castes enjoying the reservation policy. Our leaders are so short sighted by their own selfish aim that they don't even try to recongnise the greater aim of country or even the backward castes.
I am not against reservation . I believe in equal oppurtunity for eveyone and I agree that the social and economic status plays a dominant role in shaping individual future but by providing 50% reservation are we going to fulfill any of lofty aim for which reservation are meant.
Lets ask some question..50% resevration means a further compromise in quality of premeier institution.Do our leaders think that by compromising on the quality of premier instiute they will make better engineer and managers who are the vanguard of society. Why in the name of social injustice we are trying to sacrifce the very few good thingfs we have? isn't it a injustice to all who won't be able to make it to IIT and IIMs because of reservation. Do we think that we can substitute one narayan murthy, einstein,Amartya sen by increasing no. of mediocre people. The answer of all these questions is a BIG NO.

Revenge
by Voice on Apr 13, 2006 09:45 AM  Permalink

If the govt. agrees that the reservation is not to empower poor but is the price we have to pay for the misdeeds of our ancestors, it sounds fair. But then a lot more is required to be done to take actual revenge from Upper Cast's

Following addition's in our constitution would do:

1. Brand Upper Castes Untouchable as we did to SC/STS.
2.OBC/SC/ST should not drink water touched by UC'S.
3.UC'S will only get jobs like cleaning crap, sweeping roads, mending shoes..etc
4. UC'S should not show up on any auspicious occassions.
5.UC'S should not be allowed to enter the temples.
6. UC'S should not be allowed to study, if they will try to study, melted glass will be poured in their ears.
7. India should be named as : SC/ST/OBC'S Republic Of India.

There goes a famous add of Sprite Cold drinks where it passes a comment on the actor and actress saying " yeh log paison key liye kuch bhi karega"
and i say a modified version to the politicians " yeh log vote ke liye kuch bh karega"
But reservations are meant for whom ...for the weaker sections of the society and during my college days most of the people under SC/ST's categories were from affluent backgrounds .
Why not make reservations according to the poverty level ??? will somebody hear?

Reservation
by saraswathi on Apr 13, 2006 05:12 AM  Permalink

It is our fate that still we have to live in this
country, which is ruled by politicians who punish
us for the 'historical sins' said to have committed
a century ago. Even the life sentence has some
defined number of years, not throughout life. This
idiotic, vengence reservations continue for generations.
Who will punish these selfish politicians who swallow
public money, do all rowdyism and does any nonsense
to remain in power?

Sir,
All these talk about the skies falling down once the reservation comes into effect is rubbish.take the pre Mandal era(before 1990),the political system, beaurocracy, industry, take any thing, all were controlled by the so called meritorious upper castes. What have they done to the country?if they were truely what they think they are ,India would already have achieved much more.Alas!still 50% of the population is illiterate,70% ,thats a whoping 70 crore people shit in the open(i had the misfortune to travel north of Kerala),no:1 in he world for T B ,Leprosy and all sorts of communicable diseases....the list goes on!!!!!now the deprived classes are having a say...or atleast beginning to have, like it or not ,swallow it .thats the only way.If you are a non-keralite you should visit Kerala atleast once....see for yourself the change brought about by the social movements from the beginning of the 20 th century...

reservations
by Ravi Hegde on Apr 12, 2006 09:49 PM  Permalink

i think its high time that Mr Ambedkar himself come into the lime-light and oppose these reservations. Then only will this anti caste movement of his will be popular amongst the masses and gain strong support especially from the student community.
Its time that the students take the matters into their own hands and bring about progress in INDIA rather than resting on 60 plus aged weak shoulders and mentally unstable oldies in parliament to bring change in this country.
