India is going down...
by Balaji on Apr 10, 2006 08:10 PM  Permalink

There's no doubt that India will go down. The tentacles of reservaton will certainly spread to the private sector and with them will come Unions and all that crap. So, ultimately MNCs will make a beeline for some other countries. But nobody can do anything about it because the system has already evolved and it has grown. Its now too late.

why this lament, Kelkar??
by A.G.Sekaran on Apr 10, 2006 07:59 PM  Permalink

Corporate Sector, like Journalism, is a "Closed User Group" - a "relatives and Associates Welfare Association" - like the Civil Serviceas were after Independance. Why this lament, Kelkar?? Do you really believe that scoring a 2 percent because of lack of guidance from informed relatives / associates will make the OBCs lesser managers?? Or is it the latent fear of loosing out the "exclusively closed group" status?? Let Corporate sector become more democratic, Kelkar - then the best will shine - and Corporate India will become all the more real India.

Before anyone impliments a quota system in IIMs/IITs, primary/secondary education, ask them to think about having reservations in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

There can not be worst incentive to any honest student
than creating reservation other than merit. It is time
Govt.through the parliament decides that there will
be no reservation on any category wef; 2016.Let any
party and Govt.prepare themself to face the reality n life rhater than being spoonfed by reservation.Let the
youth of the country be assured that after 70yrs of
reservation policy country will see merit the only
factor in all section of life.

reservation in colleges
by dr prasad on Apr 10, 2006 07:21 PM  Permalink

50% reservation in institutions is nothing but a political gimmick to garner votes, by the ruling party. for their selfish benifits they are playing with the future of a lot of deserving candidates. such people should be scalped.over the years this country will go to dogs ,and our ruling party can be proud at this great achievement

Merit is Elitist?
by Akhilesh on Apr 10, 2006 06:49 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If Merit is elitist, then let's forget about those 9% growth rates and a high morale.

Let us replace all the dieties in our temples with symbols of mediocrity.

You name it. We're mediocre. Our cricket team buckles under stress, the less said of indegenous research the better, all our automobiles are designed abroad. Pointing out to excellence as elitist certainly has some votes, but the long term repercussions are quite scary.

RE:Merit and Quality shd not be Diluted
by J.N.Mahanty on Apr 17, 2006 12:38 PM  Permalink
It is true that Quota and Reservation will seriously affect the Quality of any good Institution and this can be appreciated only by the people having no bias on the subject of Reservation.

If the Govt and the pseudo-secular parties are really serious abt the upliftment of the poor and the deprived students of the Society, then the GOVT shd set up separate and exclusive Institution for the deserving students from the poor and deprived sections of the Society.

Very good analysis that needs to be read by unbiased politicians who really work for the downtrodden.
