What do you think, the communists are police? It's only the leftist's job to fight corruption, and the others to enjoy the corruption! There's some problem with your attitude. Also remember that whereever the communists rule the level of corruption is much lesser than others.
The students have made a correct point. Next step would be to get the commie stalwarts, Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechury, AB Bardha, Dasgupta or for that matter even Jyoti Basu, to answer these questions. How do the reporters, milling around the Left top brass, not realise the importance of these issues?
It's time the Left is hauled up for their convenient silence on these issues. The media has not done its job properly yet. I urge the students and the citizens to bombard/flood the inbox of the commie leaders with these questions.
Sir , Please do join communists. Definitely benefits are there; You will have an extra paycheck (paid by Chinese) and a free trip every year to china to listen to them and repeat that back in india.
Indian communists are the cream of hypocrites. they will never fight corruption; they fight only what chinese ask them to fight for; corruption in india is good for chinese; so communists wont fight it; you see its ok to open mnc in calcutta, but not rest of india...
A very valid point raised by the author on this very vital subject of corruption and our politicians. The Indian communists lack originality. They looked at erstwhile USSR for moral guidance. After collapse of Soviet Union, they turned towards Chinese. But alas, these Comarades did not learn any positive things from their Soviet and Chinese masters and kept harping upon obsolete and un-productive objectives that have been rejected by the whole of the world including Russians and Chinese. The Soviet collapse also failed to bring about any change in their approach as the strategy adopted by them had been designed for capturing votes and certainly not under an ideology. The fact remains that the communism is irrelevant to the world and is a drag on the society. They have already demolished Kerala and West Bengal.
Fighting against corruption can only be expected from genuine torch bearers of truth. On this and on many other similar matters, nobody is different than any other. What remains is supreme is the common objective of capturing power by any means.
Sometimes I wonder whether it is fair to expect one single group alone to fight corruption!
hi, its a valid and decent column. i think the answer lies in our own culture and social framework. we and anybody from us , if is in politics will never fight against corruption. thanks arvind
As Srinivasan said, fight Corruption and I will ensure your flag flies high not only in Kolkata but in many parts of the country.
Shameless fellows who are the reason behind India giving away its UNSC seat to China and who even today living in my country owe allegiance to China. They are again repeating history by supporting the Italian Govt led government in India
I completely agree with this article. We agree that the left is existent to express the poor people's voice. However, corruption hits the poor man the most. A rich guy can give a bribe for 2000 - 10,000 rupees for a license and not have his life affected but a poor guy would have to give up a lot of his simple luxuries or even basics for that.More intrestingly, why doesnt a poor man yell to the left to fight corruption. It would be intresting to see the left's answer on this. Maybe they also have to be devoid from the topic to maintain their position.
By supprting the inefficient public sector and the insensitive beuracracy the communists are actually the villans of the socity. Look into the past 10 years in the telecom and automobile sectors. These are the places were the cuostomer is the king, the telephone lines man is no longer the king. By supporing poverty these left parties are keen to rule the nation. Dont these chaps know where the jighly susidided kerosene is going, of course it is sold in black to the autorickshaw guys. The communists need to put their energy in stooping this corrution rather than filling the coffers of the corrupt.
