I am happy to read your expert comments on the plight of Indian women and the paradox of how we can aim to attain a higher rate of growth whilst 30-40 % of India is too busy to collect energy for basic living. I fial to understand how you can blame democracy for this ill! In my opinion, every village panchayat has failed and though panchayats are part of our political landscape, their role is more of a local administration. All the issues identified by your article should have been directed to help Panchayats take a stellar role in alleviation of the misery of the village/ town. Democracy gives the opportunity, to benefit, action is needed by organisations such as yours. A proper perspective and guidance from people in power, such as yourself, will help in making our nation a success story. Ram raja did not happen because Ram was born... it is a way of living that has become folklore - unfortunately those values are rare to find now. let us all contribute and address problems where they should be, playing a blame game is POLITICS.
