Really Unfortunate!!!
by GAURAV on Oct 14, 2005 01:53 PM  Permalink

Will Mr. Idichandy answer this question:

If the pattern and other changes were to be made, why was there a 2 stage notification dated 30th July 2005. Were the IIT's & Govt. sleeping then. This has happened for the 1st time that there were 2 different notifications. This decision is really unfortunate. It should be referred to a larger bench. I don't think only a few higher authorities are qualified to take such a big step.

Well intended...but
by avidnewsreader on Oct 11, 2005 04:09 PM  Permalink

The decision about JEE is well intended, but i dont know how far it will succeed. Overzealous parents will now start coaching their Children from 6 th class itself(for the uninitiated : IT IS A FACT THAT MANY PARENTS START JEE oriented coaching for their wards from atleast 9th class!!).

Some years later JEE would announce that 6 th class(na....first class...) marks will be considered in IIT admission.Instead , there should be only a single attempt for the IIT's.This will be major blow to the coaching institutes and STUDENTS will not make fools of themselves taking the JEE 4 or 5 times.

But the long term solution is ofcourse the badly needed education reforms in India. We simply need more and better universities. There should be a good incentive for taking up teaching as a career.

JEE changed Pattern of qualifying Examination
by mskuppa on Oct 11, 2005 03:53 PM  Permalink

The Interview with Sh. Idichandy has really clarified lot of mis-conceptions that have been there in the minds of the parents whose kids are on the close proximity of taking up this coveted examination..

YES .. it is true that continuous efforts are required to be made the 'monotonomy' of pattern of examination and 'Change' is always construed for better,,
So let us hope the collective wisdom that has been put up together will really help the needy and ideally more suited student for persuing the studies in IITs. The success of the 'changed patter of examination' can be guaged only from the 'Satisfaction Level' of our presitigious institutions i.e., IITs with the 'Quality of Students' they may get from the changed pattern of examination..

In any case, best of luck to those 'Deserving Students' in their efforts, as, after all the presitige of these institutions very much depends on thier performance when they are exposed to International Standards / requirements.

IIT JEE--only for riches..
by Samina on Oct 11, 2005 01:09 PM  Permalink

"Now it has reached a stage where genuine students with raw intelligence and aptitude armed with the knowledge gained in schools find it difficult to compete and gain admission to the premier institutions."

This quote has a deeper meaning inside. Can u imagine how much does it shatter the morale of those students who cant make it to IIT despite their raw intelligence??
JEE seems to belong to only riches who manage to pay good money in those famous coaching classes. What abt those who cant afford??? This is a welcome change frm HRD but much bigger reforms r needed because this is not sufficient.Root cause will have to be worked on and sooner if we want to tap our best talents and not let them go waste.

New pattern for IIT-JEE
by Gopal Prasad Mittal on Oct 11, 2005 12:22 PM  Permalink

New pattern for JEE'06 onward, does not suit those who are minting money from the hard work of students. They are not value-adding much to students, and earning money in Crores. Many Coaching classes are earning more than 10 crores per year. they are simply looting the hard-earned money of students' parents.

three cheers to iit-jee patern change. it is a welcome change.my daughter is in 8th std icse pattern. i was wondering whether to put my poor daughter through this ordeal of coaching classes,as i myself dont believe in them and the pressure they put on the children.once admitted in these coaching classes they cease to be human beings anymore and are treated like animals in circus who are trained in the harsh way to perform.i am really happy that my daughter is saved due to this change in jee patern.thankyou.

Why IIT-JEE pattern was cdhanged
by V. Damodara Das on Oct 11, 2005 12:08 PM  Permalink

I would like to add that in Karnataka State also, the credit is given to the school board performance (50% weightage for XII standard marks) in addition to the CET (common Entrance Test)test marks for ranking students for admission to the colleges affiliated to Viswerayya Technical University of Karnataka.

IIT_JEE
by K.Raghunadh on Oct 11, 2005 11:07 AM  Permalink

Allowing only two times to take the JEE makes the quality of the students much better. The two times apply after a student takes +2 exam. There looks to be no age limit accordinly. In this case, one will appear for +2 again and resets 'two times' limit to zero. Is there a counter for this?. Purely Objective type test degrades the quality of JEE.
