No Trade Unions PLEASE...............
by Edwin on Nov 01, 2005 05:49 PM  Permalink

My humble appeal to all trade unions in India is to spare the booming IT Industry. These unions especially CITU teach their members more about their rights than their responsibility. Just take the example of Kerala to see how many companies dissappeared from this Gods own country. These so called Trade Union leaders are not intrested in the welfare of the workers except their OWN, an easy way to live on others sweat and blood.

Union power
by SRK on Nov 01, 2005 04:59 PM  Permalink

We have seen how unions contribuite to the well beeing of the employees both in India and abroad.."BY GETTING RID OF JOBS ALL TOGETHER" the latest example is the world's biggest auto maker..GM..Bleeding and slowly dying.. One of the major contributor for the company to be on the verge of bankruptcy.."Union Power"..

I feel unions do more harm than good..but i feel that govt must design some guidlines pertaning to working conditions to save the industry from beeing branded as "knowledge sweeat shops".

Labour Union in IT/ITES
by Carthic on Nov 01, 2005 09:11 AM  Permalink

I believe that IT/ITES sector people have learnt the global lessons and are collectively voicing against the unionism in these fields. Some leftist says that "Australian IT/ITES employees form unions, then why not Indians?" The answer is that the unionism in such countries have forced the employers to move work outside due to wage pressures. I think wages must be supply-demand dependent and must not have any mandated minimum levels. Also, the fear of global managers towards Indian unionism will only work against India and IT/ITES workers will eventually suffer due to lost businesses(if unionism comes in) rather than benefitting.
IT/ITES employees are working hard, but they are equally pampered by the employers added with handsome salaries.

I born and grew up in Coimbatore, I have seen in my life how this trade unions have spoiled the thousands of family those who were working in textile sector. Because of frequent strikes by this unions the textile managements could not run their business profitably, same jobs ended in unorganized sector (Daily wages) in smaller units where the worker did not have any benefits (bonuses, Increments, Accidental Insurance.... etc). Some of the smaller in Coimbatore are now run my same union leaders. Please spare at least this younger generation. Also we are facing competition from countries like China, Philippines and Eastern European nations. This is personal request to the most honest people in Indian politics (Communists).

No trade unions for IT. period!
by Sachin on Oct 10, 2005 08:23 AM  Permalink

Our past has shown that these politicians have used workers and employees under name of trade unions for their self interest. Now they are targeting IT industry, again for their self interest. If every IT professional start thinking that they are coolie, this industry will go no where. Believe me, they are much more than that and this is what driving the industry. IT DON'T NEED TRADE UNIONS...

God save the new economy industry from the trade unions. We have seen the plight of old economy industries in West Bengal, Kerala, and the textile industries in Maharastra as well as in other parts of the Country, and exprienced the pitfall of trade unions led by political parties.

IT industry union
by Sanchita on Oct 07, 2005 11:07 AM  Permalink

"The IT industry is booming and it does not have a union". Simply reversing the halves of the statement will give the unionists their answer.
While I do agree that the labor laws for the IT industry leave people open to exploitation, - the long hours being a case in point(and therefore there are grounds for some change ), Political trade unions are definitely not required there. All they want is a finger in the growing and rich IT pie (membership of unions costs you... bigger your salary, better for them!).
And as far as job security goes, who wants it these days? I dare say far more poeple job-hop than are kicked out.
Sure, unionise the IT industry, and kill the only growing thing in India.

No! please IT industry in India is just planted. let it grow healthy and bare fruits. You are watering it with the slogan no globalisation.Manure you provide is strike in the industrial field.the tonic u feed is Bandh and hartal.you inspire the industrials with gherao. Please dont allow india ruine as alleppey in Kerala. When it flourishes and the people enjoy some benefit then we can organise bargain andplace abnormal demands leading to closure of the IT centres.
