Those were the days when workers were actual labourers -- illeterate, uneducated -- were exploited by narrow-minded managements.
Now the professionals are educated, they know what they do and how.
It is the politicians who are looking for new recruits to increase their bargaining power. It professionals don't need politicians' support.
The politicians are the wolf in the garb of a cow pretending to help out the professionals. Let politicians be kept out of productive areas for the nation.
We have enough unions happening in our country and the IT industry is still untouched. Unioism is dangerous here as it will wreak havoc in teh name of employee welfare. We have enough example of what a union can do to a business. And besides who has te time or the inclination or sufficient reason to attend to union stuff in the IT industry? The employees are well paid and they are more well off compared to other industry counterparts who may be drawing the same quantum of salary. Unions may infact be come a deterrrent to the industry from employees and employers point of view .
no trade union please ..kerala with the highest literacy rate in INDIA can't provide jobs to its people thanks to these trade unions; that have resulted in closing down of many a firms and discouraged the budding of any new industries .
Whether we like it or not,unions in the IT industry is going to be a reality(When is the question).
It would happen when the IT workers are not promoted automatically to the Team Leaders/Project Leaders/Manager's/VP's post (as is happening now). It would happen when the guys do not get hefty increments every year(as is happening now).
I think for these things to take place it would take around 5 years.By that time we would have disgruntled employees(enough of them so to say).I think the communists would not succeed till then(I hope and pray so).
By stating this I am not recommending a Union for the industry though.
