I think there is a mistake in the article
by Yuri Pinheiro on May 11, 2005 11:43 AM  Permalink

I think there is a mistake in the calculation for Example B

I think it works this way.....

Correct me if i am wrong.

Example B
(Rs)

Basic purchase price
10,000

Add 12.5 per cent VAT
1,250

VAT inclusive purchase price
11,250

Less VAT input
1,250

VAT free purchase price
10,000

Add overheads
100

Total
10,100

Add 20 per cent profit margin
2,020

Total
12,120

Basic selling price
12,120

Add 12.5 per cent VAT
1,515

VAT inclusive selling price
13,635

Hence the difference from Example A and B ends up being Rs.1688

Error 2
by Sundar on May 11, 2005 11:23 AM  Permalink

You guys seem to have messed it all.

The second error is
VAT Accounting for Filing VAT Return for April to June 2005

When talking about sales, do not mention it as purchase and mention the VAT as output tax. Only then it makes sense.

Error
by Sundar on May 11, 2005 11:19 AM  Permalink

Hey,there appears to be an error in your working. The Example A & B have the same selling price. The difference of 1688, though it is correct does not get reflected in your working.

Correct it!!!!!!

How VAT works ?
by Hansal Modi on May 11, 2005 11:18 AM  Permalink

In this article you have given two examples, Example A and Example B. I think there is some mistake in Example B, as i could not make out the difference amount of Rs 1688 which you say is overcharged. How do you get this 1688 ?

Regards,
Hansal Modi

Error in calculation?
by Vibes on May 11, 2005 11:04 AM  Permalink

Hi,
There seems to be an error in the last three steps of "Example B". The 12.5% VAT should be calculated for 12,120, not 13,620. 13,620 is the value for Example A. Due to the error both the Examples end with a final selling price of 15,323.

VAT
by Andy on May 11, 2005 10:51 AM  Permalink

Hello,
Either i did'nt understand the colummn or there is a mistake.
Both Trader I & II have the same final sale price. So how can Trader I be overcharging.
I beleive the Sale price taken for Trader II is a wrong figure.
Pls clarify.
Regards
Andy
