This incidents just shows the kind of professionalism by the police forces who are responsible for handling the internal security of the state.
Might is Right and non accoutanbility of the Police have caused policemen to develop such an inhuman , arrogant attitude towards the citizen . More often than not they forget about their basic duties towards the citizen of a free nation like India .This incident has its roots somewhere in corruption that you see in Haryana during the recuitment of Police men .You pay 5 lakhs and you become a Subinspector .Once these incompetent individual's ( mind you some of them does not have even basic communication manner )e become officers. Now this is the time for them to recover their money .This starts their journey in becoming an arrogant police force without any knowledge of basic human right .On the top of it since they are even not questioned by their officers they go on and take pride in beating the poor and oppresse whomever they can since they have uniform. This calls for a physic changes for those who are in government jobs in Haryana. This is also one of the reason why Haryana is looked at a state of uneducated people .

Gurgaon Incident
by Sachin Tiwari on Jul 28, 2005 06:51 PM  Permalink

I have been working in the same area and saw those Honda workers misbehaving with people passing by, every now and then whenever they were on strike .
It seemed there were lot of criminal elements in the work force of Honda, Which came out to be true when their demonstration become violent.
The cruelity with which they beat the Policemen is indicative of how they must have been behaving within Honda factory.
The Police's reaction was mild in comparison.
Clips of police beating these criminals was repeated by the media and beating of police personals was avoided or not shown ,and the emotional pitch of personal commentary of electronic media personnel was only demonstrating the character of Indian media , who is hell bent on sensationalising every small incident for their personal gain , even if it is alomst a lie and detrimental to the the interest of people , society and country.
If the Honda decide to move their plant from Manesar , or from India not because bad industrial relations but because of bad publicity they got for nothing , would media hire all those workers or for that matter CPIm /CPI.
one thing has been reinforced that Indian media only sell lies.

Did Police do the right thing ? Was it ?
by Rajsh on Jul 28, 2005 06:07 PM  Permalink

We all see what we are shown! Who started all this? If these workers did violence the are police there to watch or should they take action?

Did we see on the TV camera that police was also beaten? Do police need to take that and be polite? In violence and riots hooligans gets hurt and its normal. There must be fear of police to the criminals and holigans.

Are we strengthening the criminals and killing the morals of police?

We need to seriously ask this as a question....Cause if police will be meek in future in fear of ingenuine inquiries will they act in future? Will this help india and its industry ?

The Police acted as criminals
by Dulal Chandra das on Jul 28, 2005 05:58 PM  Permalink

All the police officers leading the post independence Jaliwanwalabag should be dicharged immediately. The feudal charcter of people in the region around cow belt in general and administration in particular has been nurtured by Congress and BJP from New Delhi.
There is no place of feudalism in the post feudal era and should be imposed on administration by asking them to have respects to democarcy.
The police personnel involved also should get punished for failure on their part.

GURGAON INCIDENT
by ARVIND NAIR on Jul 28, 2005 05:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This unfortunate incident in Gurgaon, as far as my judgement goes, is the result of incompetent, unimaginative and brainless senior police officers. The ordinary policemen cannot be blamed for the incident as they were only following orders.

It is such incompetent police officers that are a blot on the police force's reputation. Unfortunately, our system does not have the mechanism to identify such officers and to provide them with the necessary counselling. It is high time that police force, including the Indian civil services on the whole undergoes a reform process to meet future challenges that our country will throw up on its way to progress.

I sicerely hope incidents, like the one in Gurgaon, will not happen again.

No words is enough to express the barabaric attitude of Haryana administration. This is how an MNC works in India violating all laws and norms. Achaya JB Kripalini commented on 1975's emergency that people would not go to jail to get two meals. Similarly, let we Indians starve instead of allowing MNCs to loot and reign over us.
We are capable of directing our future without MNCs and FDIs.

Democratic Right?
by Hemanth on Jul 28, 2005 05:21 PM  Permalink

We have seen some 20 workers hitting a police man on television and that cannot be described as 'helpless workers who were merely exercising their democratic right' by a senior parliamentarian. And surprised to see none of them spoke about the incident in which police were beaten. The workers should also be made accountable for their acts and should face law .

Gurgaon Labour unrest etc
by C D Pereira on Jul 28, 2005 04:58 PM  Permalink

The media is not giving out the facts behind the unrest.
2.Shri Gurudas gupta, Shri George Fernandes & others are merely rushing to judgements even before ascertaining or revealing the real background to the so called dispute. The fact that men from far off regions had found employment at Honda's plant in Gurgaon shows that they wanted to keep their jobs.If as alleged the Management had violated the provisions of the Law/Constitution, Shri Gurudasgupta/George Fernandes & Co coul assist the aggrieved employees to seek redress in a court of law as per Law/Constitution.Instead, if some troublemakers join the Unionised labour to disrupt normal road traffic along the highways & try to browbeat the police, it unfortunately brings restitution.NDTV images also showed cops being beaten mercilessly. The instigators of this trouble & violence must be run down taken to task & deprived of their liberty until ALL the injured victims recover & till the labour disputes are resolved either amicably or by the intervention of the Court of Law
