Reg: Electronics city flyover
by Jaiganesh on Jul 15, 2005 12:35 PM  Permalink

Hi !
I wish to add to this article that rumours are abound on Electronics city flyover project having been dropped. The new idea seems to be widening the service road and making the Hosur Road a six lane highway. However one wonders what could be the solution for the traffic situation near silk board which is clearly due to the narrow BTM roads that join at silk board junction. There are also rumours of branching off the Hosur road on either sides creating routes to Banashankari and HSR layout to decongest it. However all developments for the better in Bangalore are at best just rumours!! If you add daily rumours on Metro vs Mono rail, you will come to a conclusion that Bangalore is not "Garden City" but "Rumour city".

Mumbai isnt in that bad a state as you like to think
by Sarika on Jul 15, 2005 12:35 PM  Permalink

I agree with what you have written about the problems of Bangalore . And the citizens of Bangalore are trying to get things going. Thats because Karnataka government is not doing what its supposed to do. The Maharashtra govt on the other hand is foresighted and keeps trying to build better roads , more trains, buses. The comparison is no way close. Mumbai alone has a population of 18 Million , and Bangalore is still reaching 1 Million mark. The Karnataka govt should think ahead and approve the Metro rail project atleast! That will provide some mode of transport other than just private vehicles and pricey acting autos. The problem lies in the kind of people in the government, they are just oblivious to the issues faced by Bangaloreans, infact the citizens always give better solutions to any problem than the dumb officials sitting comfortably in their "chairs".

Banglore's infrastructure
by Sachin W on Jul 15, 2005 12:11 PM  Permalink

Banglore never had a infrastructure any time..it was a pensioners town which suddenly woke up (?)to IT revolution ,The author seems to refer Mumbai moving towards dumps i am very suprised by this the writer seems to forget that Mumbai has best infrastructural facility in India, and is way ahead of banglore. The author seems blind towards the fact that new infrastructural projects comming in and around mumbai .banglore will take atleast 50 yrs by to reach where Mumbai is today and for that matter calcutta is also far ahead of banglore ,In banglore one has to use microscope to find out the roads between the potholes, public transport is pathetic .I have to remind the author that banglore is not just MG road where there is glitz and glitter please travel to outskrits of the town and find out abt improving(?) non existent infrastructure of banglore.

Is Bangalore Crumbling? Not yet.
by H.S.Gopalakrishnamurthy on Jul 15, 2005 11:52 AM  Permalink

I do not know whether the statement by Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai \"We (the private sector) have generated employment and contribute so much to the city by way of revenue.\" is really true. I am told all the software companies in Bangalore and in other cities are enjoying tax holidays and are not paying any tax on the huge profits that they are making every year. On the other hand, they have been always trying to blackmail the State Governments that unless they are provided further benefits, they will go to some other state. If they are really concerned, they should contribute to building the infrastructure in Bangalore. The only benefit Bangalore has got because of the booming IT industry is that a large number of youth have got employment and are getting hefty salaries which they do not know how to spend leading to Bangalore becoming expensive.

Regarding Bangalore traffic jams
by sushma on Jul 15, 2005 11:32 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hi,
You spoke about how the Government is not doing much about the infrastructure development. But what about the Banaglore citizens? The city has seen a spate of younsgters move in to the city recently to cash in on the IT jobs. But are they ready to take up any responsibility towards this city which has given them the luxury? Most of these youngsters, own 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers to bost their newly acquired status. Hasn't the Goverment provided them with any public transport? When everyone starts using public transport (which has improved quite a lot when comapred to how it was some 5-10 years back when I was here) we can ease this traffic problem. We need to become more responsible towards the place were we stay, instead of simply complaining. Bangalore bosts of "highly-educated" people, but do they behave in a responsible manner comparable to their education? When compared to Bangalore, Mumbai has a better infrastructure. true. Also, the trasportation facility is very good, and almost 3/4 of the population use local trains and BEST buses. We bangalorians need to devlop this habit of Mumbaikars.

-Sushma

As you mentioned youngsters standard of living has improved, true i agree with you but you should also be aware as a responsible citizen withincreased salaries, taxes have also increased so where is this revenue going, wheres our money going and if you think you are not capable and dont have the ablity to improve the infrastructure then accept that you are a loser and let someone with the ability to make changes reign.
