Infrastructure is crumbling i will use the word 'DEAD'
by AJAY on Jul 15, 2005 03:26 PM  Permalink

I dont agree fully with ur comment on comparision of Mumbai with Blore.

Blore do not have a proper public transportation nor proper roads to drive. Power supply can go any time very comman feature of Blore. Total negative vibe of the local people towards the "OUTSIDER".

In all nothing is happening in Blore except climat and that too its loosing fast.
Letc how long Blore will b able to survive if Govt is not doing anything jus like now.

A radical middle-path
by ks on Jul 15, 2005 02:42 PM  Permalink

Its heartening to read that Ethiraj is still hopeful about b'lore's future. Its quite clear that the government on its own cannot or/and will not function without active civil society involvement. While, demonstration like the one held by New Horizon School (my alumni) may draw an occasional TV channel to the spot (was it CNBC TV18, i am sure it wasn't), concrete action will come about only when people like Mohandas Pai and his ilk in the corporate world start involving themselves in city's future. His reason that 'we provide employement' rings hollow. is it an altruistic cause that his company is pursuing by giving jobs or is it Q1 profits of Rs 530 cr??? since time immemorial, the government has been the repository of citizens' welfare, but in today's market-dirven capitalistic society a sensitive & socially responsible corporate ethos will serve us well, especially bangalore.

Official BRIBE for the Officials
by Kamal on Jul 15, 2005 01:38 PM  Permalink

This issue is not just of A BANGALORE its about
AN INDIA as a whole.

I feel we lack motivation so motivate But Whom to Motivate and How. Show life in developed economies, to the poorest class along with entry level and middle level govt officials who will enable the change because they are the execution arms and not the CM or Secretaries. Commit 15- 25% Project Value as Bonus for the People Involved. Bribe them, lets accept it IT WORKS.

bangalore flyovers!!!
by Dilip on Jul 15, 2005 01:26 PM  Permalink

It is just not the Indra nagar flyover. All fly overs in making at Bangalore are delayed. Perhaps purposedly? As the time delay increases, so do the costs, that too, in crores!!! Does anyone gain financially? The area corporator? The politician? The contractor? All this requires serious investigation. No better keep quiet. You might be silenced!!!
It is really sad to see the mess at Bangalore.
Glad the people are waking up!!!!

Kolkata baiting, the in-fashion!!!
by Abhijit Kumar Sen on Jul 15, 2005 01:20 PM  Permalink

As a Kolkatan who has indeed spent a fair amount of his working life in other major citiies,I would like to express my disappointment when I read the author's sweeping comment on 'Mumbai going the Kolkata way',obviously implying a point of no return,in the most dergatory sense! The author who is senior person in the media ought to visit Kolkata and travel from the airport to the city via the newly built airport connector before he chooses to denigrate the city, which thanks to the likes of the author and his ilk has become the proverbial whipped boy who should never be allowed to rise on his feet again!! A pity really!!Glory to the country's divide!

crumbling cities of of india
by N G Nileshwar on Jul 15, 2005 01:13 PM  Permalink

why bangalore alone. every major city of india is crumbling.there is a concept in the mind of rural populace that the glamour of urban life is great. however, once this populace experiences the life there, cities get clogged by hutments and illegal dwellings, even made of concrete. amenities reduce even for those already living there. since the demand is huge, prices rise. more income is necessitated. more ways of income, legal and illegal, are thought of. ultimately life becomes miserable.
if some opportunities are made available outside major cities, the trennd of flow could possibly reverse.
