pessimistic? i dont think so..practical more like..
by Jay on Dec 23, 2006 10:19 PM  Permalink

The growth stories are all fine, but will the earth be able to support increasing appetites of consumption? Also, what is the effect of the plateauing of the Chinese population on their growth? Also, i wish to question the impact of growth in economies in times when inequitable distribution of income and low per-capita income lead to failure in raising the standard of living.

friends i agree with development.but on the planet earth US is the most polluting country aftre that china is on the way of the development and china is the 2nd largest polluter on earth planet. talk about development is good but please try to talk truely true. truth is that every hour one million usa dollars r spent on war fares and on the ohter side ppl in africa and other countries falling prey to death just cos of lack of inexpensive medicines. day by day on the name of development we r cutting down the trees which will deprive oxygen which is the true life line for all human being and other creatures.now india will be the 3rd larget polluter but all this is going on the name of so called development. we should at first save our planet. so called GDP growth simply means that how much more factories we are having in our countries which cast disastrous emission day and night.on the name of development let me tell u secret. all growth in eastern countries happening due to large consumption. this large consumption is due to large production through large factories SET by western countries. so same happening to india now. this is not all TRUE DEVELOPMENT when moral fall is on and on

India Vision
by V.I.G.Menon on Jan 22, 2005 09:41 AM  Permalink

A friend of mine,a senior IAS officer in a southern state describes a situation in China which he visited a year back.
Upon landing in China he was surprised to find a number of University PROFESSORS ,not business men,nor administrators, queuing up with offers to set up fast-track,hi-tech firms in India on a turnkey basis on a variety of technologies!!

We say China's is an authoritarian Government, but which Professor in any of our Universities ever has the trio of Vision, Capability and Empowerment to give such offers in our own country where even to get a bottle of water to be analysed takes upto two weeks! The difference lies probably in the following:

With few exceptions on either side, the Chinese Politicians think CHINA is their OWN SELF while Indian politicians think THEIR OWN SELF is INDIA.

If we have answer to this Conundrum we have found our route to Vision 2020!

Giant Imitator
by Girish on Jan 21, 2005 10:04 PM  Permalink

What do people of a giant economy do? Consume more and indulge more. They only seek pleasure everywhere. Nothing satisfies them. India is the only country that seeks to become a "global power" while discarding everything native, even its native languages. For everything good can come only if we follow the west and discard whatever is native, you see! A nation of imitators trying to gain respect!!

After 15 yrs in USA
by Shekhar on Jan 21, 2005 09:33 PM  Permalink

After 15yrs in USA i feel the problem india faces right now is :
(1) law and order
(2) infrastructure
(3) accountability and application

We overcome this and we should soon be the best in the world. We have a good heritage and strong cultural bonds. We can be the best in the world.

Amen
