There is a clear cut discrimination when it comes to Co-operative Banks. Co-operative Banks controlled or influenced by ruling parties get preferential treatment even though the Board of Directors and the Management have bungled and brought the operations to a standstill. Two of the banks controlled by sons of the soil were in the news when moratorium was imposed on them. At the same time another bank established in Mumbai by South Indian Community and having a standing of 85 years has been totally neglected by RBI, State and Central Government. The governmetns and politicians forget one thing that deposit base of the bank is very much cosmopolitan, with thousands of maharashtrian, sindhi, punjab, christian and people hailing from other states. There are thousands of depositors who are 85+ and the way in which the concerned authorities treat the bank and its depositors, it looks that the deposits of these people may not be returned while these unfortunate people are alive.
