Can India dress the world.?
by labrea on Aug 29, 2005 08:45 AM  Permalink

Is this meant to be a joke? With the dismantling of quotas, China's textile exports jumped over 50% in just 5 months, yet India still has not been able to increase her share of world textile imports, in spite of being notified years in advance of the WHO's quota realaxation. This only goes to show the govt's indiffernec, ineptitude, incompetence, total lack of commitment and having a zero textile policy.

I don't have much exp abt the Textile sector, but i agree fully that govt. needs to do the following :

1. make Labour laws more flexible - with some safety features like some part of salary going into fund for few jobless months, after job.
The policy makers should also consider the workers today covered by the labour force in Organised sectors. They are minority with most of the workers in un-organised sectors who are exploited. What needs to be done to relax the rules so that most of the Industry comes under Organised sector & all gets some protection, than only few getting full protection while the masses suffer.

2. Conc. on other sectors also like - Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals, Garments, Food Processing, Tourism, etc. These sectors will provide jobs to much more people than IT sector & will create better distribution of Growth, Money & Power.

Politicians should know that these policy of opposing the Liberalisation to save there jobs is costing lot of Indian jobless persons remaining jobless & the resulting suffering in addition to sleeping with empty stomach.
Jiyo aur Jena doo !!

Garment sector has the highest employment so govt should take necessary steps to help gmarment sector to grow. china is ranking top b'cause their govt has given many subsidies for any SSI industries to develope. Indian govt also needs to support gmt industry as well. We cannot hv 1 industry (IT sector) growing to peak & others standing behind.
