NEW IIT's
by SSK on Aug 18, 2005 09:26 PM  Permalink

People have to realise that IIT is more than funding, facilities and faculty. Its about the students that graduate from there and the atmosphere that they are nurtured in. Changing names of universities and selecting students from the same examination will not result in more IIT's.
Think about that.

I have some strong views against this move. These people are killing the status of such a fine IIT system that is already in place. Can somebody tell me how to write into rediff guest columns ?

My piece is bigger than 1200 characters.

I may be contacted at ashishsinha01@gmail.com

thanks much,
ashish

Dear Mr Ashish Sinha Nothing prevents you from summarizing your opinion highlights. Do remember that in International conferences lead scientists just get a few minutes to explain their life time work. with best wishes Partha sarathy

NIT Warangal more worthy of being IIT
by niraj on Aug 18, 2005 08:59 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The foundation stone of NIT W was laid along with the reputed IIT's by our Ex. PM Mr.Nehru. Yet it hasn't enjoyed the status of being one of the upcoming IIT's.Seeing the institutes glorious past it is the most probable contender of being among the IIT's.Ranked seventh in the recent NASSCOM survey just next to IIT's it is strange to see this NIT not being shortlisted.

Osmania Univ an IIT????
by Tapas on Aug 18, 2005 07:46 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

A few years ago, when I was looking for jobs, I came across a job posting by a big industrial house that said \'Students/graduates of Osamania Univ need not apply\'.
I asked around whether this univ is so good that they are recruited without applications.
In the USA, recruiters are wary if they see a degree from Osmania Univ (I know they are wary of degress from Bihar also). Making such a university into an IIT speaks only of politics and does not take into consideration the values, ethics and history of the colleges.
My pick - 1. IT-BHU 2. Jadhavpur
Rest all do not fit the bill to become an IIT.

New IIT
by s k sahoo on Aug 18, 2005 04:35 PM  Permalink

Establishment of central institutes/laboratories,PSUs,5-year plans, equalisation of freight charges etc are considered solely on political consideration rather than any merit after the independence. The resources of mineral rich states like ORISSA being drained & people are being sent to other states for slavery. On which basis states having already one IIT being considered for central funding for other IITs.Oneday people will revolt. One cannot fool all the people all the time.

Its stupid.
by Abhyuadaya Shrivastava on Aug 18, 2005 03:28 PM  Permalink

It is really a stupid move that will dilute the IIT Brand & image. The only institute/univerity worth even considering is IT-BHU. Other institutes in the list are not even considered "good engineering colleges" outside their states and to grant them the IIT STatus is highly deplorable.

There is no reason for anymore IITs and the current system of IITs and then second tier premier institutes like NITs is a proper system.

no more IITs
by prashant on Aug 18, 2005 02:35 PM  Permalink

Please improve the condition of the present IITs.Make them at least 1% of what is potrayed about them in the media. Most if the IITs are in pathetic state education wise. Most of the professors don't deserve to be in IITs.Please don't make any more IITs.Try to emphasise on quality and not quantity. Please improve the standard of IIT JEE.It's becoming more like board exams.
