What a dream !
by Da Vinci on Aug 21, 2005 04:24 PM  Permalink

If this is a dream, of a person like Narayan Murthy, whom so many Indians revere, then God help Infy !

Though I admire the value systems that Infy has put into place, the reason it is a billion $ revenue company is coz, it was in the right place in the right time. With abundance of cheap labor, not only Infy but many "bania" companies took over low end work of "rich" countries and managed to get some money.

But now, companies like IBM Global Services have entered India and have started giving local companies a run for their money by using cheap labor here. No doubt Infy and Wipro reduced there guidance for coming quarters. That inspite of US economy recovering is only due to these phoren consultancies stealing Infy's share and employees.

No where in his dream does Murthy talk about tapping Indian consumer market, moving up the value chain, developing innovative products.

Unfortunately, with this dream, I don't see Infy's model scalable. Wait for a few years and watch these MNC consultancies and consultancies from other countries including China, eat into Infy's share. Till then, if you are a person doing low end stuff make sure you have enuf hay for rainy day :)

It was wonderful 2 read the gr8 motivational speech.. Even after shining as a gr8 IT Giant, The words that he uttered ,"We will continue to have the mindset of a small company even as we grow and scale" makes us undestand the secret behind his development.

NRN Speech
by Pravin Jagtap on Aug 20, 2005 10:50 AM  Permalink

"Putting the corporation's interest ahead of personal interest will advance personal goals in the long term"

I think it is very difficult to get the meaning of this statement in the early stage of ones career.

Pravin

DREAM MERCHANTS
by anupam shukla on Aug 19, 2005 03:55 PM  Permalink

Narayan Murty's dream of Infosys seems very company-centric. Is he thinking of betterment of the society at large? NO!!
How many people are benefitted by Infosys?
-mainly shareholders, employees and the big companies who sell them equipment/Softwares or make infrastructure for them. Agreed ,Infosys is generating employment for the educated youth. What about imparting education to those deprived of it? OR generating jobs for the uneducated youth? You'd argue that ,Infosys is in software services business to make money for the stakeholders and NOT an NGO for a social cause.RIGHT!,CUT THE SOCIAL CAUSE FROM YOUR SPEECH THEN! And not mention it till we see Infosys hospital/health care centres( not the Apollo-type profit centres for the elite)for the masses ;till we see an AIDS foundation or Children's education centres all over India from Infosys?
A company does not need 25 yrs to do this.Birlas Tatas ,Hindujas and smaller players have already done something for the society.
Now its your turn ,Narayan Murty.

( Who knows,I may join your company someday!)

infosys
by harry on Aug 19, 2005 09:57 AM  Permalink

It is better to satisfy employees rather than giving long speeches . Anyone can play with words but real success is when you can make your employees happy . Infosys will be there 250 years or forever it does not matter if employees are unhappy . so better to show ethics in your work rather then always talking about these things in speeches.
